The trend of studying abroad and seeking employment overseas.
On the afternoon of February 25th, continuing the 2024 Exam Season Counseling program organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper at Phan Chau Trinh High School (Hai Chau District, Da Nang City), more than 2,000 students enjoyed interacting with and listening to very real-life stories about choosing majors, studying abroad, and finding jobs in the region and around the world from Mr. Hoang Anh Duc, General Director of Sky-Line Education System.
Master Hoang Anh Duc, General Director of Sky-Line Education System, inspired over 2,000 12th-grade students in Da Nang City.
Mr. Hoang Anh Duc holds a Master's degree from Maastricht School of Management (Netherlands) and a certificate in school administration and leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Master's student Hoang Anh Duc began his inspiring story by recounting his own experience: "If I could go back to your age, about 15 years ago, I couldn't have imagined what knowledge management was, and I couldn't have pictured that one day I would complete my doctoral research in knowledge management…"
According to Master Hoang Anh Duc, in his generation, studying abroad was a distant dream, even with excellent academic performance. However, nowadays, studying abroad or participating in international joint training programs has made the dream of studying abroad more accessible for students.
Master Hoang Anh Duc shared real-life stories about the experiences of students studying abroad.
In a conversation with Master Hoang Anh Duc, Thao Van (a 12th-grade student at Nguyen Khuyen High School, Da Nang City) shared that she is preparing her application and has received scholarships from several universities in the US. However, Thao Van has not yet decided which university she will attend, and her planned major is Computer Science , specifically software engineering or AI.
"My biggest concerns are probably my family's budget and the visa. Besides that, I'm quite curious about life in America, so I've asked older students who went before me and heard stories that I couldn't find online," Thảo Vân confided.
Thao Van (a 12th-grade student from Nguyen Khuyen High School) chats with Master Hoang Anh Duc at the Exam Season Counseling program.
Master Hoang Anh Duc offered many pieces of advice and hoped that Thao Van would learn more about the principles and terms regarding financial aid and scholarships at American universities.
Leverage your own abilities to 'find' success.
Master Hoang Anh Duc also shared a real-life story from five years ago about a former student who received a scholarship to study in Europe. When that student received the scholarship, the whole family and relatives were overjoyed.
Carrying the expectations of family and relatives, this international student is determined to embark on a journey to a new land to "reach for their dreams".
However, geographical differences, weather conditions, and especially the harsh, snow-covered winters in Europe have created many difficulties for international students.
"Unfortunately, she fell into mild depression and didn't know who to talk to. After the second semester of her first year, she lost her scholarship due to declining academic performance. The most difficult thing at that time was that the international student didn't tell her family about losing the scholarship because she was afraid her parents would be shocked and unable to accept it," said Master Hoang Anh Duc.
Students in Da Nang City enjoyed listening to inspiring real-life stories.
Afterward, the international student chose to work part-time as per international student regulations, but it still wasn't enough to cover expenses. "She continued to work illegally in shops owned by Vietnamese people, and as a result, she got bogged down until the first semester of her second year without getting her scholarship back. Furthermore, the school issued a warning that she might be expelled due to a serious decline in academic performance," Master Duc recounted.
Finally, the student contacted the German master's degree holder. Having no other option, he took a bus to meet and talk with the parents of the student studying abroad (whose family lived in a northern province).
The grounds of Phan Chau Trinh High School were packed with students as Master Hoang Anh Duc shared his experiences and inspired them at the Exam Season Counseling program.
Later, family representatives traveled to Europe to meet with, encourage, and find ways to help the student. With the support of her parents and relatives, the student received a scholarship in her fourth year and completed her studies.
"Through this story, I want to convey to the students that they should equip themselves with a 'steel spirit' to strive their best with their passion and the direction they have set. To successfully climb a mountain, the first thing is to know where the summit is, then there are only two main actions left: stepping with the right foot and stepping with the left foot…," Master Duc advised.
Master's degree holder Duc believes that for those intending to study abroad, a major question to consider right now is: After graduating from university, what career path and career orientation will you pursue? Will you work for companies or businesses, or pursue research? While you are still studying at university, how will labor and industry trends change?
Students in Da Nang City attentively listened to inspiring stories of pursuing their passions from experts during the Exam Season Counseling program.
During the program, many students raised the question: if they choose a particular major today, will that field be "saturated" a few years after graduation? To address this concern, Master Duc suggested that each student should strive to become more "refined" and "high-quality."
"You must have self-reliance and always be learning new things… to succeed in your future endeavors. And so that later, no matter where you are, you will always be a capable person, self-improving and helping those around you," Master Duc said.
