According to Kyiv, Russia recently fired more than 90 missiles and approximately 100 drones in an attack on Ukraine's power grid. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on allies to respond firmly to Russia.
President Vladimir Putin said the latest bombing was a " response" to Ukraine's attack on Russian territory with Western missiles.

The military conflict between Russia and Ukraine is about to enter its third year and has escalated sharply in recent days as both sides deploy new weapons in an attempt to gain the upper hand before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January.
" We do not rule out the possibility of using Oreshnik missiles against military centers, military-industrial centers, or decision-making centers, including in Kyiv," Vladimir Putin said at a press conference in Astana, Kazakhstan, referring to the hypersonic missile.
Kyiv, the capital region, home to many government buildings, is heavily guarded, but fears have increased over the past week.
Russia tested a new Oreshnik ballistic missile in Ukraine, and the Russian leader claimed that firing multiple Oreshnik missiles simultaneously would create a force equivalent to a nuclear attack or a " meteorite" strike.
The Kremlin leader added that the attack on Ukraine's power grid was " a response to the ongoing attacks on Russian territory by US ATACMS missiles."
On November 18, the administration of President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use US-made weapons to strike deep into Russian territory, a significant reversal of Washington's policy in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Moscow had previously warned that the move to ease restrictions on the use of US weapons in Ukraine was a major escalation.
This move comes two months before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, 2025. It is unclear whether President-elect Trump will reverse President Joe Biden's decision upon taking office. Trump has long criticized the scale of U.S. financial and military aid to Ukraine and has vowed to quickly end the conflict if elected.
