Developing a model of linking production and consumption of monosex tilapia

On the morning of October 3, at the hall of the People's Committee of Dong Hoa ward, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with Hoa Hiep ward and Dong Hoa ward to organize a conference on developing a monosex tilapia farming model associated with linking production and product consumption.

Attending the event were Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment; Mr. Dinh Van Dang, Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center; leaders of several localities, departments and enterprises, and 300 delegates who are aquaculture farmers in the province.

According to the presentations at the conference, in recent times, the province has demonstrated many tilapia farming models such as monosex tilapia farming in mountainous areas, commercial tilapia farming, etc. From here, many households have initially approached the techniques of raising this aquatic product. In the first 6 months of the year, the whole province had 2,028 hectares of tilapia farming, with a cage volume of 7,294 m 3 .

Currently, the province has many advantages to replicate the model, including: large water surface area (42,000 hectares); popular markets in the US, Japan, China...; stable seed source, the state has many support policies...

At the conference, leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment and related units listened to and answered questions from farmers about purchasing, input and output prices, capital support procedures, as well as shared techniques, technology and experience in successfully raising tilapia.

Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: “Today’s conference creates connections between farmers, experts, businesses, and suppliers, promising to form a production and consumption chain for tilapia products in the future. From now until 2030, the department hopes that this chain will develop sustainably and successfully build a tilapia product brand that is typical of the province.”
