Protecting consumer rights is one of the issues that attracts the attention of the whole society, especially in the context of consumer rights violations that are tending to increase in both number and severity with increasingly sophisticated and complex methods.
Digital business models, e-commerce, and cross-border trade are becoming increasingly popular, offering many conveniences to consumers, but also posing many risks and limitations that can be exploited by unscrupulous individuals to trade in counterfeit, fake, substandard, and unverified goods, affecting the health and well-being of consumers.
To improve the legal framework for protecting consumer rights in line with practical realities, the National Assembly passed Law No. 19/2023/QH15 on Consumer Rights Protection on June 20, 2023, which came into effect on July 1, 2024, replacing the Law on Consumer Rights Protection enacted in 2010.
With 7 chapters and 80 articles, the 2023 Law on Consumer Rights Protection clarifies the rights of consumers. Accordingly, consumers are guaranteed safety of life, health, honor, dignity, reputation, property, information protection, and legitimate rights and interests when participating in transactions and using products, goods, and services provided by businesses and individuals.
At the conference, delegates listened to presentations from speakers and lecturers on regulations concerning the principles and policies for protecting consumer rights; the rights and obligations of consumers; the responsibilities of businesses and individuals towards consumers; consumer protection activities of agencies and organizations; regulations on registration of standard contracts and general terms and conditions of transactions; dispute resolution between consumers and businesses; and state management of consumer protection.
These are important points for state management agencies, social organizations, and businesses to continue to enhance their responsibility and actively coordinate in participating in activities to protect consumer rights, while also protecting the legitimate rights and interests of honest businesses and individuals, ensuring a healthy competitive business market.
