Within the framework of the official visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, to the Republic of Finland, at the invitation of Finnish President Alexander Stubb, on the morning of October 21, the General Secretary's wife, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, and the wife of the Finnish President, Suzanne Innes-Stubb, visited the Oodi Central Library in Helsinki, Finland.

The two First Ladies toured the exhibition areas, reading spaces, the "Book Heaven" zone, film screenings, art exhibitions, workshops, art creation, science and technology exploration, teamwork activities, games, and events organized for all ages, families, and especially children.

Introducing the history, architecture, and outstanding activities of the Oodi Library, Library Director Anna-Maria Soininvaara emphasized that the Oodi Library is one of Finland's most modern cultural buildings, considered a symbol of "open knowledge" and a creative community space for the people of Helsinki.

Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly expressed her delight at visiting the Oodi Library, thanked Mrs. Suzanne Innes-Stubb and the Library's leadership for the warm welcome, and expressed her great impression of the library's spacious layout and extensive, modern collection of materials.

The First Lady shared that in the context of rapidly developing science, technology, and information media, where knowledge can be accessed through many platforms, the Oodi Library still maintains its mission – as a center for creativity, knowledge sharing, and community connection. This is a unique model for Vietnam to emulate. Vietnamese people have long valued reading as an indispensable part of their journey towards knowledge and character development, so Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly was particularly impressed with Finland's education policies and system, where books and knowledge are not only preserved but also disseminated, inspiring creativity and promoting community development.

On this occasion, Ms. Ngo Phuong Ly, on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, presented the Oodi Library with a "Vietnamese Book Collection" comprising over 120 selected titles, nearly 160 books in Vietnamese and bilingual format, categorized into four main themes: Literature and art books featuring classic Vietnamese literary works, modern short stories, and collections of Vietnamese poetry and fairy tales, helping foreign readers and overseas Vietnamese children better understand the Vietnamese language and spirit.

Books on Vietnamese history and culture introduce the journey of nation-building and national defense, cultural figures, customs and traditions, and tangible and intangible heritage recognized by UNESCO.

Contemporary Vietnam - Integration and Development includes bilingual books and publications introducing the country and people of Vietnam during the period of reform and international integration, along with publications on diplomacy, education, science, technology, environment, and sustainable development.

This book series, aimed at young Vietnamese people in Finland, includes translated versions of famous Finnish literary works, comic books, bilingual picture books, and supplementary reading materials to preserve and spread the Vietnamese language among the second and third generations of Vietnamese people abroad.

The "Vietnamese Book Corner" is located in the "Book Paradise" area on the 3rd floor of the Library, alongside other foreign language books. This will be the first Vietnamese reading corner in the Helsinki public library system, open free of charge to the public and the Vietnamese community in Finland.

Ms. Ngo Phuong Ly emphasized that the Oodi Library's dedication of a prominent space to receive the "Vietnamese Book Collection" is vivid evidence of Finland's openness, respect, and appreciation for cultural diversity. She expressed the hope that this first collection would inspire more book collections and cultural exchange programs in the future, not only in Finland but also in many other countries around the world where Vietnamese people live. These will be sustainable "bridges of knowledge," fostering understanding, respect, and friendship between nations.

Finnish First Lady Suzanne Innes-Stubb thanked Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly for the gift, emphasizing that the Vietnamese Bookcase has a very special meaning, contributing to bridging the gap and strengthening understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.

Library Director Anna-Maria Soininvaara expressed her deep gratitude for the meaningful gift from Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, considering it a testament to the friendship and people-to-people exchange between the two countries. She also affirmed that the Oodi Library will cherish and maintain the "Vietnamese Book Collection" as part of its multilingual space.
