Figures released on December 12 by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show that the country has achieved another bumper crop in 2025, with total food production reaching a record high of 714.88 million tons.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), this figure represents a 1.2% increase year-on-year. This achievement was driven by increases in both planted area and yield per unit. Specifically, the country's grain planted area expanded for the sixth consecutive year, exceeding 119 million hectares in 2025. Yield per unit also increased by 1.1% compared to the previous year.
NBS official Wei Fenghua stated that the stable growth in cultivated land area is the result of the government's multifaceted measures, including strengthening the protection and improvement of agricultural land quality, optimizing cropping patterns, and promoting the rehabilitation of abandoned agricultural land.
He emphasized that a bumper harvest lays a solid foundation for accelerating the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, and for promoting comprehensive rural revitalization.
In addition, the NBS representative noted that this achievement provides strong support for China's economic recovery and high-quality development, while also making a positive contribution to stabilizing the international food market and ensuring global food security.
