In his 2024 State of the Union address, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that the West wanted to treat his country similarly to what it had done to Ukraine, but they had "miscalculated."

According to the State of the Union address delivered by the Russian President on February 29, posted on the Kremlin website (Kremlin.ru) , in the first part, Putin devoted time to the fight to "defend national sovereignty " and praised the soldiers who fought "for the interests of the Fatherland".
According to him, the West wants to "bring discord into Russia, weakening it from within," but "must face the firm stance and determination" of the Russian people.
The West is instigating conflict in Ukraine.
The Russian president accused the West of instigating conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and other regions, and blamed Moscow for intending to attack Europe.
Declaring this "nonsense," Putin argued that the West was "choosing targets to attack Russian territory and selecting the most effective means of destruction," and began talking about the possibility of sending NATO military forces to Ukraine.
Warning that the consequences of intervening in the conflict "could be far more tragic" than in World War II, he said: "They must understand that we also have weapons that can strike targets on their territory."
The leader also noted that what the West is devising actually risks "leading to a nuclear arms conflict and that would be the destruction of civilization."
According to Putin, unlike the Russians who "experienced the international war against terrorism in the Caucasus and now the conflict in Ukraine," the West "has not experienced difficult trials and they have forgotten what war is."
The Kremlin leader stated that the actions of the US and its allies "have effectively led to the dismantling of the European security system, creating risks for everyone."
Superweapons 'enter the battle'
According to President Putin, the defense and consolidation of Russia's sovereignty is taking place in all directions. The armed forces have gained extensive combat experience, maintained the initiative, confidently launched offensives in several operational areas, and gained control of increasingly more territory.
What the country intended to do in the field of weapons, as outlined in the 2018 State of the Union address, has already been implemented or is in the final stages of completion, while its strategic nuclear forces remain ready for use.
According to Putin, the special military operation in Ukraine has seen the effective operation of the Kinzhal hypersonic air-to-air complexes, the Zircon hypersonic sea-attack missile, the Avangard intercontinental hypersonic units, and the Peresvet laser system.
Meanwhile, tests of the Burevestnik cruise missile with unlimited range and the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle are also being completed, showcasing unique and advanced characteristics.
Russia has also delivered the first batch of Sarmat heavy ballistic missiles to its military and will soon deploy them.
The Russian president affirmed that his country did not start the conflict in Donbass, eastern Ukraine, but Moscow will do everything possible to end and resolve all tasks of the special military operation, protecting the sovereignty and safety of Russian citizens.
