PlayStation is creating a slew of new game franchises

According to GadgetMatch , PlayStation has been on a roll ever since the launch of its current generation of consoles. In addition to the PlayStation 5, the company has also been working on several successful franchises. Now, fans are set to welcome many new franchises in the near future.

Accordingly, Sony recently held a business presentation about the future of PlayStation. Although there was not much to share about hardware, the company presented upcoming plans for their game titles.

A notable detail in the announcement is that the company predicts that fiscal year 2025 will see a 50-50 split between new and existing franchises. Previously, the company had an uneven split in fiscal year 2019, with only 20% of its development capacity focused on building new games. That split eventually increased to 40% in fiscal year 2023.

At the time, this uneven split was intended to focus more on the PlayStation 5 hardware. Now that the gaming console space has stabilized, Sony sees more value in building new gaming brands for the future.

Notably, Sony also predicts that the live services market will grow even more. The presentation predicts a 60-40 split between live services and traditional games, with the lion's share going to live services. Sony is said to be working on 12 live service games at the moment.

In contrast to the traditional game archetype, live service games are a genre of games where developers continuously add content after launch.
