In an article published on Indosport on October 15th, the Indonesian newspaper reported that the national team is planning to naturalize five stars in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2024 Asian Cup.
Indonesia plans to naturalize goalkeeper Emil Audero.
The list of 5 players includes: midfielder Jay Idzes, goalkeeper Emil Audero, center-back Nathan Tjoe-A-On, midfielder Thom Haye and center-back Ryan Flamingo .
The most prominent name on this list is goalkeeper Emil Audero, who plays for the reigning Champions League runners-up, Inter Milan.
Another player currently playing in Italy is Jay Idzes. He currently plays for Venezia, a club competing in Serie B.
Recently, Jay Idzes traveled to Indonesia to complete the naturalization process and was personally welcomed by the President of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI), Erick Thohir.
Meanwhile, Nathan Tjoe-A-On is currently playing for Swansea City in the Championship (England).
The 22-year-old player also had a private conversation with the PSSI president about the issue of naturalization. A few days ago, he went to the Bung Karno stadium to watch the Indonesian national team's match against Brunei.
The other two names are Thom Haye and Ryan Flamingo, who currently play in the Netherlands. Both players are reportedly ready to obtain Indonesian citizenship this year.
If all the aforementioned players successfully obtain citizenship, the Indonesian team promises to see a significant improvement in strength.
The Indonesian national team has now almost secured a place in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after their 6-0 victory over Brunei in the first leg.
If they qualify for this round, coach Shin Tae-yong's team will compete against Vietnam, the Philippines, and Iraq.
Meanwhile, at the 2024 Asian Cup, Indonesia will once again face the red-shirted team in the group stage, alongside Japan and Iraq.
