Specifically, at around 6 PM this evening (October 1st), authorities temporarily closed the road, preventing vehicles from moving due to the high water level and strong current of the Red River.
"This afternoon, the Phong Chau pontoon bridge was temporarily closed due to floodwaters from upstream. The rising water level of the Red River and the strong current caused many trees and obstacles to become entangled in the bridge, putting pressure on it. Therefore, Brigade 249 temporarily cut the pontoon bridge. It is expected that if the water flow is stable tomorrow morning, it will be reconnected to serve the people."
Currently, vehicles have to temporarily use Ngoc Thap Bridge ( Phu Tho town) to cross the river.
Earlier, at 6:00 AM (September 30th), Brigade 249 officially opened the Phong Chau pontoon bridge to traffic. Immediately after the opening, hundreds of vehicles from both sides of Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts crossed the bridge.
Vehicles are permitted to cross the pontoon bridge from 6 AM to 10 PM daily.
To ensure safe bridge operation, the Phu Tho Provincial Police have issued a notice allowing bicycles, motorbikes, and three-wheeled motorcycles to travel in both directions at a speed not exceeding 5 km/h.
Only passenger cars and pickup trucks are allowed to travel in one direction on the bridge, with a 10-minute time limit for each direction, a minimum distance of 30m between vehicles on the bridge, and a speed limit of 10km/h.
Traffic flow across the bridge is expected to be ensured from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. Additionally, the pontoon bridge operator will deactivate the bridge, allowing watercraft to pass through from 10:00 PM the previous day to 5:00 AM the following day.
Between 5 and 6 a.m., Brigade 249 will connect the bridge.
