Reasonable prices and suitable schedules are the reasons why 5-day tours to Thailand are selling well at travel companies last year and this upcoming Tet holiday.

According to statistics from a number of travel and tourism companies with large market shares in Vietnam, in 2024, the most popular destinations for Vietnamese tourists include Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, mainland China and Japan. Of which, Thailand, with the traditional 5-day Bangkok - Pattaya or Chiang Mai tour, is the leading destination.

Ms. Ha Anh, in charge of communications for Vietravel tourism company - Hanoi branch, said that the number of customers traveling to Thailand of the company is usually the highest. According to data in 2024, the number of customers of the unit's Thailand tours is 3.5 times higher than the second-ranked destination, South Korea.

Tours to Thailand by companies usually cost from 5 to 9 million VND per person, and from 9 to 12 million VND per person during holidays. Prices vary depending on the service, holiday surcharges, and some additional requirements.

"Reasonable prices and suitable time are the reasons why 5-day tours to Thailand always sell well," said Ms. Ha Anh. Companies such as Saigontourist , Vietluxtour, and Redtours all have the best-selling Thailand tours among their products.

According to statistics from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the total number of Vietnamese visitors to Thailand in 2024 is about 980,000, up to November 2024. At the same time, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan, according to statistics from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) and to Korea according to the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) are 600,000 and 500,000, respectively.

In addition to tours, a large number of Vietnamese tourists to Thailand also travel independently. Not only do they account for a large number of visitors in the ASEAN region, but Vietnam also spends the second most when visiting Thailand, after Myanmar, according to TAT.

"What makes Thai tourism successful in promoting tourism in the Vietnamese market is that the rate of returning and first-time Vietnamese visitors is approximately the same," a TAT representative commented in September 2024. In addition to reasonable costs, Thai tourism also attracts visitors thanks to similar cuisine and culture.

During the Lunar New Year, Thailand is also a popular destination for Vietnamese tourists, with tours always selling best.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Marketing and Communications Director of Vietluxtour travel agency, Thailand tours have good prices, suitable visiting time for Tet holiday, and attractive destinations with many activities that are not boring such as beach games and special shows.

"Many families travel on Tet tours with 2-3 generations, so budget is very important. Thailand is chosen a lot because it has reasonable costs compared to other destinations in Northeast Asia," said Ms. Thu.

There are no statistics on the number of tourists traveling to Thailand during the Lunar New Year because there is still a lot of time to sell, but Ms. Ha Anh said that for many years, Thailand has always been the company's most crowded tour during the Lunar New Year.

In 2025, according to predictions from travel companies, the above mentioned attractive destinations for Vietnamese tourists will not have much change. Besides Thailand, China is also an attractive destination for Vietnamese tourists because of the diversity of routes and the effects of media and social networks, according to Ms. Thu.
