An 'unknown' teacher at the University of Finance and Marketing lent 15 million to a poor student for admission.

Because she was too poor, Nguyen Ngoc Hong Thy gave up enrolling in the University of Finance and Marketing. Tuoi Tre guided her to contact the bank to borrow money and return to the school to ask for an extension of the tuition payment date. At the school, a touching story happened.

An unexpected meeting in the school's finance office.

Nguyen Ngoc Hong Thy, 18 years old, temporarily residing in Vam Lich hamlet, Cai Nhum commune, Vinh Long province. Her father died in an accident, and her mother, burdened by debt, sold the house and left to work elsewhere. Thy has to live with her sister-in-law's mother and is unable to attend school.

When Thy learned she had been accepted, the tuition fee for the first semester came as a shock to her.

Although she had applied online for the Tuoi Tre newspaper's "Supporting Students to School" scholarship, Thy was unsure if she would be approved and didn't dare enroll. She decided to give up on this dream.

A reporter from Tuoi Tre newspaper learned about Thy's situation and guided her on ways to continue her studies, such as borrowing money and requesting an extension for tuition payment. Thy decided to take a bus to Ho Chi Minh City, to the University of Finance and Marketing, bringing her enrollment documents.

"A girl took me to the school's finance office to inquire about the procedures, but the school stipulated that new students had to pay the fee before the enrollment system could be opened," Thy recalled.

At that moment, a teacher in the room overheard the conversation. After inquiring about the situation, he whispered, "Just pay the fee to get your file opened so it's not too late. I'll lend you 15 million dong. You can pay me back later when you manage to raise the money."

The teacher didn't say his name, didn't mention a deadline for repayment, and the female student left without knowing his name.

For many people, 15 million dong might not seem like a large sum, but for a poor freshman, it represents a gateway to a brighter future. Thy was astonished, unable to believe that a stranger would be willing to help her with such a large amount of money.

Thanks to the money her teacher lent her, poor student Hong Thy was able to complete her enrollment procedures on time. She plans to pay the remaining tuition fees when she receives the "Supporting Students to School" scholarship.

Anonymous teacher: "I won't reveal my name and I won't take the money back..."

A reporter from Tuoi Tre newspaper contacted the University of Finance and Marketing to find the compassionate teacher. The Headmaster, a school official who requested anonymity, was very surprised and shared: "That day, an admissions officer brought a female freshman to explain her situation. I told her that the school currently has many different policies to support students in difficult circumstances, and that she needed to complete the necessary paperwork to be considered."

However, she said she couldn't yet get poverty status confirmation from the local authorities. I thought that if I didn't help, this student would lose the opportunity to enroll because the deadline had passed, so I lent her some money from my own pocket. The university's Student Affairs Department will continue to review her application to determine how to provide long-term support."

The teacher also confided, "Honestly, I didn't think I would get the money back from the student because she's so poor, so I didn't even tell her my name. I just said I lent it to encourage her to try harder; I didn't ask for the money back. As an educator , I feel very guilty seeing students in such difficulty and ignoring their problems. I just hope she doesn't lose her dream of going to school."

"The kindness of the Youth Union and my teacher brought me back to the path of learning."

Hong Thy has been considered for an advance scholarship from Tuoi Tre Newspaper's " Supporting Students to School" program. Tuoi Tre reporters have also contacted the local Social Policy Bank and the University of Finance and Marketing to enable Thy to participate in poverty alleviation programs.

Following the article about Thy published in Tuoi Tre newspaper , Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Head of the Admissions, Communications and Corporate Relations Department of the school, stated: "The school has acknowledged the situation and will waive all dormitory fees for Thy for all four years of study. She will also be introduced to scholarships each semester, and if she achieves a GPA of above average, she will receive 50% tuition support. In addition, the school is contacting businesses to support the remaining amount. If Thy performs well academically, the businesses will offer her employment after graduation."

Thus, thanks to much support and encouragement, Hong Thy has successfully entered university, a place the poor girl once thought she could never set foot in.

On the morning of October 27th, in an interview with Tuoi Tre newspaper , Thy said that she has now settled into her dormitory and begun her first classes at university. Thy stated that her first priority is to study hard so as not to disappoint those who have believed in and helped her.

"If it weren't for Tuoi Tre newspaper, the teacher in the finance department, and everyone else, I would have stayed in my hometown to work. I am grateful for this great help and will study very hard," Thy said.
