Patient HVC (77 years old, residing in Dong Loc commune) was admitted to the hospital in a coma with complete hemiplegia. After a CT scan revealed a cerebral infarction and blockage of a major blood vessel, the patient was quickly transferred to the interventional room.

With the support of Dr. Hoang Hai Phu – Stroke Center, Hue Central Hospital, Dr. Nguyen Sy Trinh – Head of the Department of Nephrology and Musculoskeletal Disorders (Provincial General Hospital) and his team, they performed a cerebral vascular recanalization procedure using mechanical thrombectomy. After 45 minutes of intervention, the blocked cerebral blood vessel was completely reopened. To date, the patient is conscious, the hemiplegia has recovered, and the limbs move normally.
In the past three days, this is the second stroke case successfully treated by doctors at the Provincial General Hospital using mechanical thrombectomy after receiving training from experts at Hue Central Hospital.

Dr. Hoang Hai Phu – Stroke Center, Hue Central Hospital, said: “This is a fairly severe stroke case, and the stroke occurred quite a long time ago. The fact that the cerebral blood vessels were recanalized using thrombectomy has helped the patient recover, demonstrating the superiority and effectiveness of this technique. It can be said that the provincial general hospital's mastery of this technique is extremely important, providing many opportunities for survival and recovery, and minimizing sequelae for stroke patients.”
