In particular, he achieved perfect scores in Mathematics and English. He also scored 9.25 in Literature. For the two specialized subjects, Quân scored 8.25 and 7.2 points.
Minh Quân and his family expressed their joy and surprise upon learning that he had achieved the top score in the 10th grade entrance exam. "In fact, Quân had already assessed his own score, but the whole family didn't think he would be the top scorer," shared Ms. Đỗ Thị Kim Ngân, Quân's mother.
Mom's special rules
Ms. Ngan said that Quan is a very self-motivated student. From his elementary school years and especially in middle school, he always maintained his ability to learn independently. His parents only played the role of guiding and supporting him when he needed it.
The only thing Ms. Ngan had to "force" her child to do was go to bed before 11 pm. "I limit my child's studying until then. Around 11 pm, I start urging her to go to bed because she has to wake up at 6:30 am the next morning for school," she said.
According to Ms. Ngan, Quan also has excellent time management skills. He always makes sure to complete assignments given by teachers right in class. After school, Quan studies extra classes outside of school and completes additional assignments before 11 PM.
Despite dedicating a lot of time to studying, Minh Quân still goes swimming every afternoon.
"Previously, my son also studied martial arts, played music, drew, and basketball... but since 8th grade, he's been busy with exams and studies, so he only goes swimming for about an hour each afternoon," Ms. Ngan said, adding that once, while Quân was swimming, he came up to the shore, took out a pen and paper, and wrote it down so he wouldn't forget.
Always be creative, meticulous, and serious in your studies.
Commenting on Minh Quân, Mr. Cao Văn Dũng - a math teacher at Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students and his homeroom teacher - shared that Quân is a quiet, intelligent student who is very serious about his studies. Math and Computer Science are his two favorite subjects and he excels at them the most. He also participates in the student excellence competition teams in both subjects.
"In 8th grade, Quan focused on participating in the Informatics Olympiad with the 9th graders. He won second prize in this subject for two consecutive years, 8th and 9th grade," said Mr. Dung.
Regarding memorable moments during his time teaching Quân, Mr. Dũng recounted that although Quân dedicated a lot of time to Computer Science, he excelled in Math. When called upon to solve problems on the board, Quân performed very well and came up with some very clever and creative solutions.
"Quan passed the entrance exams for both the Computer Science and English specialized programs. But if Quan had taken the Math specialized program, I'm sure he would have passed," said Mr. Dung, adding that with the Math and English entrance exam requirements for 10th grade, Quan achieving perfect scores wouldn't be surprising.
The homeroom teacher expressed his admiration for Quân's Literature score. Despite being a student with a strong aptitude for science subjects, Quân achieved a very high score of 9.25 in the Literature exam for admission to grade 10.
According to Mr. Dung, class 9A (specializing in Mathematics), which he is the homeroom teacher of, has very high scores in Literature, with most students scoring 8 points or higher. "Quan and the other students in class 9A were greatly inspired to learn Literature by their subject teacher. She is very dedicated, attentive to her students, and well-liked by them," he said.
Speaking to Lao Dong newspaper, Ms. Vu Hong Nhung, Minh Quan's Literature teacher, assessed that Minh Quan is a very serious, meticulous, and hardworking student. His intelligence and logical thinking also greatly help him in systematizing knowledge and presenting his work clearly. Therefore, when she learned that he scored 9.25 in the subject she taught in the 10th grade entrance exam, Ms. Nhung felt very proud and happy.
"In class, Quan is humble, eager to learn, and diligent. His Literature scores in all the assessment tests were always between 8 and 9 points. Especially in the final stages, to prepare for the 10th grade entrance exam, Quan put in a lot of effort. Therefore, the score of 9.25 is completely well-deserved for him," said Ms. Nhung.
Before knowing the results of the 10th grade entrance exam from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Minh Quân had already been accepted into the Computer Science specialized program at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences and the English specialized programs at the High School for Gifted Students in Foreign Languages and the High School for Gifted Students in Pedagogy.
"Quan has a good foundation in English thanks to learning English with his father. From a young age, Quan was taught English by his father, and later, in addition to learning English at school, he used English in daily communication with his father," said Ms. Do Thi Kim Ngan, Quan's mother.
