Attending the reception, on the Vietnamese side were representatives from the Department of European and American Markets, the Import-Export Department, and the Trade Promotion Department; on the Romanian side were Ms. Cristina Romila, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Vietnam, Mr. Adrian-Claudiu Stanica, Commercial Counselor of Romania in Vietnam, and representatives of several large enterprises from Prahova province, Romania.
Opening the meeting, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long extended a warm welcome to the Chairperson, the Ambassador, and the delegation visiting and working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in particular always value the traditional friendship between the two countries. Specifically, the Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Romania, including the Chairperson and the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for their warm and sincere reception of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-level Vietnamese delegation during their official visit to Romania in January 2024.
On the Romanian side, Mr. Aurelian Nicolae Gogulescu expressed his honor and pleasure at visiting and working in Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in particular. This visit fulfills the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the business community of Prahova province, Romania, on the occasion of the Prime Minister's official visit to Romania in January 2024. Chairman Aurelian Nicolae Gogulescu emphasized that the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry has a long history of cooperation with Vietnam since 2001, in the fields of oil and gas and education and training. A prime example is the PETROVIETROM joint venture, established in 2002 under the auspices of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This joint venture has contributed to the success of a series of projects in Vietnam such as: the construction of the Dung Quat oil refinery (training operating engineers), the Phu My fertilizer plant, and the Dinh Vu Polyester plant. Notably, the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry has participated in welcoming high-level Vietnamese delegations visiting Prahova province, Romania, such as the delegations of President Tran Duc Luong (2003), Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (2019), and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (2024).
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Specifically, based on the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA), of which Romania is a member, both sides agreed that economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has developed quite positively in recent years, but remains modest compared to its potential. Both sides agreed to promote cooperation in areas where both countries have strengths, such as: trade, automotive manufacturing, education and training (in the oil and gas sector), high-tech agriculture (production of swine cholera vaccines), information technology, etc.
Regarding the organization of the 18th Session of the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation between Vietnam and Romania, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long expressed his hope that the Ministry of Industry and Trade would closely coordinate with the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Business and Tourism, the Romanian Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in Romania, and relevant agencies, including the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Romania, to successfully organize the 18th Session in Romania in 2025. This event will make a practical contribution to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950 – 2025).
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long expressed his gratitude and best wishes for good health to the President of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Romania, the Ambassador, and the members of the delegation for their kind sentiments about Vietnam and its people.
