At the beginning of the reception, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long warmly welcomed the President, the Ambassador and the delegation who visited and worked with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in particular always attach importance to the traditional friendship between the two countries. In particular, the Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Romania, including the President and the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for their warm and sincere welcome to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation during their official visit to Romania in January 2024.

On the Romanian side, Mr. Aurelian Nicolae Gogulescu expressed his honor and joy to visit and work in Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in particular. This visit realizes the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the business community of Prahova province, Romania on the occasion of the Prime Minister's official visit to Romania in January 2024. President Aurelian Nicolae Gogulescu emphasized that the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry has a long history of cooperation with Vietnam since 2001, in the fields of oil and gas, education and training. A typical example is the PETROVIETROM joint venture established in 2002 under the auspices of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This joint venture has contributed to the success of a series of projects in Vietnam such as: construction of Dung Quat oil refinery (training of operating engineers), Phu My fertilizer factory, Dinh Vu Polyester factory. In particular, the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry has participated in welcoming high-ranking delegations of Vietnamese leaders visiting Prahova province, Romania, such as: President Tran Duc Luong (2003), Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (2019) and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (2024).

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the economic and trade cooperation situation between the two countries. Specifically, on the basis of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA) of which Romania is a member, the two sides agreed that economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has developed quite positively in recent times, but is still modest compared to its potential. The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in areas where both sides are strong, such as cooperation in the fields of: trade, automobile manufacturing industry, education and training (in the oil and gas sector), high-tech agriculture (production of swine fever vaccines), information technology, etc.

Regarding the organization of the 18th Session of the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation between Vietnam and Romania, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long hopes that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will closely coordinate with the Ministry of Economy, Business and Tourism of Romania, the Romanian Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in Romania and relevant agencies including the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Prahova, Romania to successfully organize the 18th Session in Romania in 2025. This event will contribute practically to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950 - 2025).

At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long expressed his thanks and best wishes to the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Prahova, Romania, the Ambassador and the members of the delegation for their good feelings about the country and people of Vietnam.

The trade surplus in the first 8 months of 2024 reached nearly 141.5 million USD.

In the period 2019 - 2023, bilateral trade in goods between the two countries increased by more than 1.65 times from 261.4 million USD in 2019 to 431 million USD in 2023, with an average growth rate of 15%/year during this period. Vietnam's exports to Romania increased by 1.46 times from nearly 194 million USD to 282.3 million USD. Vietnam's imports from Romania increased by 2.2 times from 67.5 million USD to 148.6 million USD.
