On July 2nd, Hungarian government spokesperson Bertalan Havasi confirmed that Prime Minister Viktor Orban had arrived in Ukraine that morning.

This is Orban's first visit to Ukraine since military conflict broke out in Hungary's eastern neighbor in February 2022.
The Associated Press reported that the visit took place just one day after Hungary officially assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).
In Kyiv, Prime Minister Orban is expected to meet with high-ranking Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, to discuss opportunities for achieving peace in Ukraine and current issues in bilateral relations.
Earlier, at the EU summit in Brussels, Belgium, at the end of June, Prime Minister Orban also had a side meeting with President Zelensky.
Hungary has consistently blocked, delayed, or scaled back EU efforts to expand support for Ukraine and sanction Russia since the conflict began. Orban's government has consistently opposed supplying more weapons to Kyiv.
The day before, the Hungarian head of government stated that if Donald Trump won the US presidential election, there would be a ceasefire in Ukraine.
In an interview with M1 television, Prime Minister Orban said: "Whether this will lead to lasting peace is unknown, but the situation will certainly not be the same as it is now. And that is why Europe needs to quickly prepare for the possibility that the US and Russia will sooner or later begin negotiations with each other."
Furthermore, according to the EU member state leader, Europe should ask itself, "What is its position in this division?", "Who represents its interests and what are those interests?".
