(CLO) French Prime Minister François Bayrou has declared that Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of social network X, is posing a threat to democracies.
In an interview on French television on Monday, Bayrou said, “Elon Musk is posing a threat to democracies. Money should not be used to manipulate conscience.”

This statement comes in the context of Prime Minister Bayrou's earlier warning that France and Europe need to confront President Trump and his policies strongly, or risk being "dominated, crushed, and marginalized."
Billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and the world's richest man, has repeatedly expressed his views on international political issues. Specifically, he supports an anti-immigration party in Germany in the upcoming February elections. At the same time, he has consistently commented on British politics, even calling for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign.
Musk's statements and actions in the political arena are causing concern among the European public about the potential negative influence that tech billionaires can have on political and social systems.
Prime Minister Bayrou is not the only politician expressing concern. Many leaders in Europe have criticized Mr. Musk’s concentration of power and influence on social media platforms, where he controls the spread of information and sometimes intervenes in political debates.
