(CLO) French Prime Minister François Bayrou has declared that Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of social network X, is posing a threat to democracies.
“Elon Musk is a threat to democracies. Money should not be used to influence conscience,” Mr. Bayrou said in an interview on French television on Monday.

This comment was made in the context that Prime Minister Bayrou had previously warned that France and Europe needed to strongly confront President Trump and his policies, if they did not want to be "dominated, crushed and marginalized".
Billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and the world's richest man, has repeatedly expressed his views on international political issues. Specifically, he supported an anti-immigration party in Germany in the upcoming February election. At the same time, he also constantly commented on British politics, even asking British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign.
Mr. Musk's statements and actions in the political field are causing public opinion in Europe to worry that technology billionaires can have a negative influence on political and social systems.
Prime Minister Bayrou is not the only politician expressing concern. Many leaders in Europe have criticized Mr. Musk’s concentration of power and influence on social media platforms, where he controls the spread of information and sometimes intervenes in political debates.
