(CLO) French Prime Minister François Bayrou has declared that Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of social network X, is posing a threat to democracies.

“Elon Musk is a threat to democracies,” Bayrou said in an interview on French television on Monday. “Money should not be a tool to dominate conscience.”

This comment was made in the context that Prime Minister Bayrou had previously warned that France and Europe needed to strongly confront President Trump and his policies, or else they would be "dominated, crushed and marginalized".

Billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and the world's richest man, has repeatedly expressed his views on international political issues. Specifically, he supported an anti-immigration party in Germany in the upcoming election in February. At the same time, he has also repeatedly commented on British politics, even calling for the resignation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Mr. Musk's statements and actions in the political field are causing public opinion in Europe to worry about the negative influence of technology billionaires on political and social systems.

Prime Minister Bayrou is not the only politician to express concern. Many European leaders have criticized Mr. Musk’s concentration of power and influence on social media platforms, where he controls the spread of information and sometimes intervenes in political debates.
