The prefecture with the largest Vietnamese population in Japan wants to have a Vietnamese consulate general.

On his sixth visit to Vietnam, Governor Omura Hideaki of Aichi Prefecture (Japan) expressed his desire for Vietnam to open a consulate general there and increase the frequency of flights, as well as open new routes.

According to VNA, shortly after his approval on the afternoon of August 26, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son held his first meeting with an international guest at the Government headquarters. This was a meeting with Governor Omura Hideaki of Aichi Prefecture, who was on a working visit to Vietnam. During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son welcomed Governor Omura Hideaki's sixth visit to Vietnam. Highly appreciating the cooperation between Aichi Prefecture and Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and localities, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the Vietnamese Government attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation between localities of the two countries, considering it a pillar in the overall relationship between the two countries. He also highly appreciated and thanked the efforts of the governor and the Aichi prefectural government in creating favorable conditions for nearly 60,000 Vietnamese people living, studying, and working in the prefecture. He also suggested that Aichi Prefecture expand its acceptance of Vietnamese interns and workers, contributing to the province's socio -economic development and helping Vietnam train high-quality human resources to serve its industrialization and modernization efforts. Regarding trade and investment, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs requested that Aichi Prefecture continue to pay attention to and encourage more investment in Vietnam, especially in areas where the province has strengths such as automobile manufacturing, railways, aviation, and high-tech agriculture. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government is striving to improve institutions and reform administration to create favorable conditions for Japanese businesses to invest and operate successfully in Vietnam. On this occasion, Mr. Bui Thanh Son also requested Aichi Prefecture's support and facilitation when Vietnamese airlines increase flight frequencies and open new routes to Aichi Prefecture, contributing to promoting trade, investment, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges between the prefecture and localities in Vietnam.

For his part, Aichi Governor Omura Hideaki congratulated Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on his election as Deputy Prime Minister by the National Assembly, expressing his pleasure at being the first international guest to be received by the Deputy Prime Minister. Regarding cooperation with Vietnam, Governor Omura Hideaki stated that Aichi Prefecture has signed a memorandum of understanding on promoting investment with the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment, and a memorandum of understanding on friendly cooperation with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. During his visit to Vietnam, Governor Omura Hideaki also worked with the Ministry of Transport , the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and airlines Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet to discuss opportunities for cooperation between Aichi Prefecture and Vietnam in the fields of transportation and investment. According to Governor Omura Hideaki, there are currently about 200 businesses based in Aichi Prefecture investing in Vietnam, ranking first among Japanese localities with businesses investing in Vietnam. Aichi Prefecture is also home to approximately 60,000 Vietnamese people, making it the prefecture with the largest Vietnamese community in Japan, even larger than Tokyo (approximately 54,000). Therefore, Aichi Governor Omura Hideaki hopes the Vietnamese government will consider opening a consulate general in Nagoya and encourage airlines to increase flight frequencies and open new routes to the prefecture.
