Australian Governor-General appreciates positive developments in relations with Vietnam

According to a VNA reporter reporting from Canberra, continuing the visit to Australia, on September 19, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission - and the high-ranking delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam met with Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn; met and discussed with Chief Minister of the Canberra Capital Territory Andrew Barr; worked with Australian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Sarah Storey; and worked with the leadership of the Australian National University.

Welcoming Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia and the Vietnamese delegation to Australia, Ms. Sam Mostyn expressed her delight at her first visit to Vietnam as Governor-General of Australia in early September, and emphasized that such visits are vivid evidence of the depth and affection between the people of the two countries.

The Governor-General and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia highly appreciated the positive developments in bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism, and education; appreciated the role and contributions of the Vietnamese community to Australia's development and the bilateral relationship; affirmed that Australia is always a reliable partner of Vietnam and committed to supporting and accompanying Vietnam in its efforts to become a developed country in the future.

Canberra Chief Minister Andrew Barr stated that Canberra is a political and diplomatic center with strengths in healthcare, services, science and technology, and is considered Australia's education capital. The Chief Minister expressed his desire to implement concrete cooperation projects with Hanoi and other Vietnamese localities during his visit to Vietnam in early 2026, particularly in the areas of education, training, trade, tourism, and urban planning.

During a meeting with the Head of the Central Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, Nguyen Trong Nghia, the leadership of the Australian National University highly appreciated the Vietnamese Communist Party's orientation towards educational and training development, expressing their readiness to support Vietnam in developing science and technology, promoting innovation, developing basic science fields, and improving the quality of human resources through providing scholarships for Vietnamese students and researchers to study in Australia.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia conveyed greetings from Vietnamese leaders to the Governor-General of Australia and emphasized that Vietnam values ​​the development of relations with Australia, wishing for the two countries to strengthen cooperation in all areas. He also thanked the Government and people of Australia for their continued support of Vietnam in its national renewal and development process, and proposed that both sides actively coordinate and effectively implement existing high-level agreements and cooperation mechanisms, especially the Action Program for the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2024-2027; continue to promote cooperation in security and defense, connect the two economies, boost bilateral trade, and create breakthroughs in cooperation in human resource development, education and training, science and technology… in order to bring practical benefits to the people of both countries and contribute to maintaining peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.
