General Secretary To Lam received Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun

General Secretary To Lam suggested that the Ministries of Defense and the armed forces of Vietnam and China effectively implement existing mechanisms; and research and promote cooperation in new, potentially promising areas.

On the afternoon of December 19th, at the Party Central Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, received the Chinese Minister of National Defense, General Dong Jun, and the Chinese military delegation attending the ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).

Speaking at the reception, General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the important significance of Mr. Dong Jun's visit, demonstrating the high regard of the Chinese Party, Government, and military for the good traditional friendship between the two Parties, two States, and two militaries, contributing to concretizing the high-level common understanding on strengthening defense and security cooperation as one of the important pillars of Vietnam-China relations.

General Secretary To Lam conveyed greetings and best wishes to General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping; congratulating China on the great achievements it has made over more than 40 years of reform and opening up, and on completing the "first centenary" goal in 2024, moving towards the "second centenary" goal, and making a positive contribution to peace and stability in the region and the world.

Minister Dong Jun expressed his pleasure at visiting Vietnam; respectfully conveyed greetings from General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to General Secretary To Lam; congratulated Vietnam on the important achievements it has made in recent years, as well as the achievements of the Vietnam People's Army in its 80 years of development and growth.

Minister Dong Quan expressed his confidence that under the resolute leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam will certainly achieve many great new successes in the process of renovation and socialist construction, successfully realizing the two goals of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party and the founding of the nation.

In a sincere and friendly atmosphere, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Party, State, army, and people of Vietnam always cherish the great assistance of the Party, State, army, and people of China throughout various historical periods; highly appreciated the positive and remarkable development of relations between the two parties, two countries, and two armies; and that defense cooperation is being actively promoted by both sides in an increasingly practical and effective manner, contributing to consolidating political trust and solidarity between the two parties, two countries, and two armies, bringing practical benefits to the people of both countries, and making a positive contribution to maintaining peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

The General Secretary proposed that the Ministries of Defense and the armed forces of the two countries strengthen exchanges and high-level meetings; effectively implement existing mechanisms, as well as research and promote cooperation in new, potential areas; expand cooperation in the fields of political and ideological education and cadre training; and enhance border cooperation, control, and better resolve disagreements at sea in accordance with high-level common understandings and international law.

Minister Dong Jun affirmed that China always values the traditional friendship between the two Parties, two States, and two armies; the People's Liberation Army of China is ready to implement the high-level common understanding and work with the Vietnam People's Army to promote substantive and comprehensive cooperation, contributing to building a strategically significant Vietnam-China Community with a shared future.
