In August 2024, Toyota Vios recorded sales of 1,010 vehicles, down 42% compared to the previous month (1,745 vehicles). However, compared to the same period in 2023, this sales increased sharply by 251%. Despite fierce competition from rivals in the segment, Vios has led the low-cost sedan market in Vietnam for two consecutive months. From the beginning of 2024 to the end of August, Toyota Vios sold a total of 6,952 vehicles, surpassing Hyundai Accent (6,910 vehicles) and Honda City (4,521 vehicles), to become the best-selling sedan model in the segment.

Hard Times and the Comeback
Early 2024 is a difficult period for Toyota Vios as competitors such as Hyundai Accent and Honda City continuously launch new versions with many attractive promotional policies. This has shaken the leading position of Vios. However, Toyota's price adjustment from the end of March 2024 and the application of preferential registration tax policies from July 2024 have helped Vios quickly regain its appeal in the market.
In particular, from September 2024 to the end of November 2024, Toyota Vios will continue to enjoy a 50% reduction in registration tax according to Decree 109/2024/ND-CP. This policy is expected to be a major driving force to help Vios sales continue to break through in the last months of the year.
Competitive advantages of Toyota Vios
Toyota Vios has long been one of the best-selling car models in Vietnam, with cumulative sales reaching over 247,000 vehicles as of the end of August 2024. The appeal of Vios comes from advantages such as durability, low operating costs, spacious cabin and high safety. In addition, Toyota also continuously launches attractive promotions, along with competitive pricing policies.
The Vios is also highly rated for its safety features, with the Toyota Safety Sense package including forward collision warning and lane departure warning. In addition, the car is fully equipped with standard safety features such as anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (BA), electronic balance, hill start assist and 7 airbags.
New version promises
In the near future, Toyota Vios is expected to launch a new version in the Vietnamese market, after being introduced in some Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. The new version will have a more sturdy and sporty design, built on the completely new DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform. The car has a larger size, providing a more spacious interior.
In addition, the new version of Vios is also upgraded with a 7-inch TFT electronic screen behind the steering wheel, a 9-inch entertainment screen supporting Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, automatic air conditioning with PM2.5 air filtration function and a 64-color interior lighting system. In particular, the electronic handbrake with automatic brake hold is also a notable highlight. Safety features from the Toyota Safety Sense package will also continue to be equipped on this new version.
