The event was co-organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Culture and Sports, and the Ho Chi Minh City Athletics Federation, to implement the orientation of developing tourism associated with sports and culture, one of the important pillars in the strategy of building Ho Chi Minh City into a megacity of international stature.
This year, the race continues to affirm its position as the largest running event in Vietnam with more than 23,000 athletes from 81 countries and territories participating. This scale recorded impressive growth, with the total number of athletes expected to increase by more than 30% compared to the 2024 season.

The race spreads the message “Run for a superior Vietnam”, passing through 17 iconic landmarks of Ho Chi Minh City - where the past, present and future blend in every step.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 8th Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon, Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism emphasized that this is not only the largest running race in the country; but also a journey to promote the image of a dynamic, friendly and vibrant Ho Chi Minh City to domestic and foreign tourists, through each step of the athletes.
According to Ms. Hieu, the tournament is held within the framework of the City Tourism Week to affirm the orientation of tourism development associated with sports and culture, one of the important pillars in the strategy of building the city into an international tourist super city, towards a green, sustainable and unique destination worth experiencing.

Ms. Hieu said that a tournament that initially had only more than 4,200 athletes in its first edition has now entered its 8th season, attracting more than 23,000 athletes to participate.
This remarkable growth affirms the attraction of the City's iconic race, always ready to welcome friends from all over the world, ready to become a leading regional sports and tourism event center, Ms. Hieu further emphasized.
According to the Organizing Committee (OC), what makes the Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon so vibrant is the emotional steps of the athletes. On the journey through 17 symbols of the City, each step not only conquers the challenge but also touches the heartbeat of a youthful - modern - affectionate city.
Taking place within the framework of the 5th Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Week with the theme “Lively Festival Season”, this year’s Marathon Village is arranged as a miniature cultural and tourism experience space, introducing the unique features of the City to athletes and visitors.
Here, participants can learn about 17 typical destinations on the running route, new tourism products of the City such as river tourism, green tourism, as well as information about festival activities of Tourism Week taking place from December 3-12. At the same time, many tourism and shopping stimulus programs are deployed to serve athletes and tourists.

Combining large-scale sports activities and a series of tourism stimulus experiences - festivals, the Ho Chi Minh City tourism industry hopes to widely spread the image of a vibrant, rich in identity and hospitable city to the domestic and international community.
As an important highlight in the ecosystem of the Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon, the KIDS RUN will take place on December 6 at The Global City, expected to welcome more than 1,200 children from 5 to 14 years old to participate in two distances of 1.5 km and 3 km.

Ho Chi Minh City: Promoting tourism through symbolic sporting events
