Ho Chi Minh City discusses solutions for healthcare development in Con Dao special economic zone

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health needs to soon advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on specific goals and solutions to meet the medical examination and treatment needs of the soldiers and people of Con Dao as well as fishermen and tourists in the coming time.

On the afternoon of July 16, comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, led a working delegation to have a working session with Con Dao special zone to find solutions to develop specialized healthcare here.

Attending the meeting were Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong, along with leading experts in the medical field in Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, in Con Dao special zone, there is only one military-civilian medical center, with a combined military-civilian medical model, performing both preventive medical and medical examination and treatment functions. In recent times, Con Dao military-civilian medical center has basically ensured medical examination and treatment for officers, soldiers, people and tourists.

On April 19, 2025, the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center was inaugurated with a scale of 60 beds and modern medical equipment. However, the Con Dao medical sector is still facing many difficulties such as: lack of specialized and highly skilled human resources; bidding for the purchase of drugs, medical supplies, and chemicals still has many problems; emergency transportation of patients to hospitals on the mainland faces many shortcomings...

At the meeting, experts discussed and contributed a number of contents to improve the quality of healthcare in Con Dao special zone such as: organizing on-site and online training and professional training for medical staff; implementing a family doctor model for cadres, soldiers, people and tourists; rotating highly skilled and specialized doctors to work in Con Dao, to support experience in medical examination and treatment and emergency; proposing policies to attract doctors to work here...

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc emphasized that the development of healthcare for Con Dao special zone must be linked to the future development orientation of Con Dao. Therefore, the Department of Health needs to promptly advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on specific goals and solutions to meet the medical examination and treatment needs of the soldiers, soldiers and people of Con Dao as well as fishermen and tourists in the coming time.
