To minimize traffic disruption on Hanoi Highway and Vo Nguyen Giap Road, the contractor will carry out girder installation work from midnight to 4 am on Friday and Saturday nights each week. Simultaneously, the contractor will develop a traffic safety plan and coordinate with traffic police to reroute vehicles underneath, preventing congestion at this gateway route.
Hanoi Highway was rerouted for four hours while contractors installed 80-meter-long pedestrian bridge girders connecting the High-Tech Park station of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line.
Working through the night, workers installed a pedestrian bridge at the elevated station of metro line 1.
The right branch of the pedestrian bridge connecting to the High-Tech Park station is approximately 80m long, crossing Hanoi Highway, and is divided into three spans (32m, 26m, and 22m). Each span consists of two girder sections, with a load capacity of 46-75 tons. The bridge girder installation will be carried out by the contractor after the completion of the substructure construction such as bored piles and piers. It is expected that the girder installation for this pedestrian bridge will be completed on November 6th, followed by the installation of the roof, bridge deck, signage, etc.

According to the contractor, the bridges are being built to connect the passenger transfer levels of the elevated stations with residential areas and bus stops along the side. One side of the bridge crosses the left parallel road of the Hanoi Highway (heading from Saigon Bridge towards Suoi Tien). On the other side, the bridge crosses the highway and the right parallel road, ensuring safe access to and from the station by eliminating the need to cross the road. Besides facilitating passenger travel, the project also serves as an emergency exit in case of a station incident.
Following the pedestrian bridge connecting the High-Tech Park station, the contractor will continue construction of the pedestrian bridge girders at Binh Thai station in December. Several other bridges connecting Phuoc Long, Rach Chiec, and Tan Cang stations are expected to be installed in January and February 2024.
The Metro Line 1 project (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien line) has a total length of 19.7 km, including 2.6 km underground and 17.1 km elevated, with 14 stations: 3 underground and 11 elevated. The total investment after adjustment is 43,700 billion VND. The project's route runs through Districts 1, 2, 9, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) and Di An ( Binh Duong ), and is expected to begin commercial operation in the second quarter of 2024.
