Earlier, on May 30, four informed sources said that China had confirmed it would not attend the event.

Three sources revealed that China declined the invitation because the conditions for its participation were not met.

Speaking to reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that China's decision shows that Beijing understands that holding such an event without Russia's participation would be pointless.

Meanwhile, Moscow has not been invited to the conference in Switzerland.

On May 31, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that its demand for an international peace conference, accepted by both Russia and Ukraine, was "fair" and "impartial," and not aimed at any particular side.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning made this statement at a press briefing after Reuters reported that China would not attend the peace conference for Ukraine hosted by Switzerland next month.

"China attaches great importance to Switzerland hosting the first peace summit for Ukraine and has been working with the Swiss side as well as all relevant parties since the beginning of this year," Mao Ning emphasized.

On May 30, the RIA news agency quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying that China could arrange a peace conference in which Russia and Ukraine would participate.

Foreign Minister Lavrov emphasized that this move would continue Beijing's efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.

Meanwhile, the neutral Swiss government is seeking broad participation from various countries around the world for a summit on June 15-16. Bern hopes this summit will pave the way for a peace process in Ukraine.
