(Dan Tri) - A university in Ho Chi Minh City has issued an academic warning to students, including cases where they may be forced to drop out of school.

Academic warnings for students are issued for each semester of the school year and apply to one of the following conditions:

Students with a cumulative GPA below 1.20 for first-year students, 1.40 for second-year students, below 1.60 for third-year students and 1.80 for students in subsequent years and at the end of the course;

Students have a semester GPA below 0.80 for the first semester of the course, below 1.00 for subsequent semesters.

For students who have received the first and second academic warnings, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade recommends that students contact the Faculty of Industry Management or academic advisor for support and advice on their study plans to improve their academic results in the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year.

Students will be removed from the academic warning list if their academic performance in the next semester no longer violates the above conditions.

The school warns that students who receive academic warnings three times in a row will be forced to drop out of school from the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year.

Every year, at many universities, hundreds, even thousands of students are given academic warnings or forced to drop out of school due to poor academic results.

At the end of 2025, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, hundreds of students were forced to drop out of school and given academic warnings due to poor academic results in the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year.

Of these, 41 cases were forced to drop out of school and 75 cases were given academic warnings, all stemming from poor academic results.

At the same time, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, about 2,000 students from the 2021, 2022 and 2023 courses from many majors were expelled, warned, and placed on academic probation.

There are 88 students forced to drop out of school due to their average score of two consecutive semesters (semester 1 and semester 2 of the 2023-2024 school year) being below 1.00 or having the required number of credits.

In addition, nearly 1,000 students are expected to be placed on academic warning due to having a second semester GPA below 1.00. More than 900 other students are also on probation due to poor academic performance and credit debt.
