On May 18th, in Hanoi , the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) held a meeting with the authors who were awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.
Coinciding with the 133rd anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday, the awarding ceremony for the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022 will be held at the Hanoi Grand Opera House on May 19th.
This year, 128 authors and co-authors were awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts, including 16 authors and co-authors who were awarded or posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize, and 7 photographers who are veteran journalists of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Nhung, Deputy General Director of VNA, said: After six award ceremonies from 1996 to 2022, VNA has had the honor of having 19 authors recognized, with 4 Ho Chi Minh Prizes and 18 State Prizes in literature and art, in the field of photography. Among them, journalist and martyr Luong Nghia Dung, the late photographer Vo An Khanh, and journalist Chu Chi Thanh were honored to receive both prizes. Most of the outstanding photographic works honored were taken during the resistance war against the US for national liberation. Only the photo series "The Rare Simplicity of a Great Man" (photographing General Vo Nguyen Giap by journalist Tran Van Tuan) was taken after the country's reunification.
"This is a prestigious award from the Party, the State, and the people bestowed upon VNA, upon the news agency's photographers, and upon the courageous journalists who have accompanied the nation during historical moments, contributing to the cause of national liberation, reunification, and the building and protection of the Fatherland. This is a great source of pride and honor for generations of reporters, editors, officials, and employees of VNA," Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Nhung expressed.
The history of revolutionary Vietnamese journalism records that, during the wars of resistance to defend the Fatherland, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) played a crucial role as a reliable strategic information agency of the Party and the State. VNA reporters were present on battlefields everywhere, in the most dangerous places; promptly recording historical moments, condemning war crimes; and reflecting the heroic struggle of our army and people to regain peace , independence, and freedom for the nation. Many VNA reporters bravely sacrificed their lives on the battlefield while carrying out their information duties. VNA is the press agency with the highest number of journalists who died in the war, with nearly 260 martyrs; out of a total of more than 400 journalist martyrs nationwide.
"In particular, with its large team of photojournalists and an archive of over 1 million film and photo copies, VNA is the National Photo Archive, preserving the largest, most vivid, and authentic collection of photos about the resistance wars and historical events of the country and the nation. The prestigious awards and the exemplary artistic work and selfless sacrifices of previous generations will continue to inspire and strongly encourage VNA journalists in the journey of building VNA into a leading national multi-media news agency, contributing to the country's renewal and strong development," affirmed Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Nhung.
Therefore, the meeting with the authors awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022 was an opportunity to honor the award-winning authors and their works. It was also an opportunity for photographers to share stories about their profession, their award-winning works, and to inspire and instill a love for the profession in young members of the Youth Union, photojournalists, and editors working at the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
At the exchange session, photographer Chu Chi Thanh recounted the process of capturing and preserving the photo series "Two Soldiers"; photographer Dinh Quang Thanh shared about the process of shooting the five-photo series "The Enemy Destroys, We Keep Going"; and photographer Tran Van Tuan shared about being selected to photograph General Vo Nguyen Giap and introduced the photo series "The Rare Simplicity of a Great Man"...
The content shared by the photographers serves as a source of motivation and inspiration for young reporters and editors, especially photojournalists, providing them with more experience in their work so they can create high-quality works that truthfully and vividly reflect the pulse of life. Through this, they continue their love for the profession and the industry, upholding the traditions of previous generations and constantly striving to contribute to the development of VNA.
