USD weakens significantly.
Today, December 28, 2023, the USD exchange rate at VCB continued to increase slightly by 10 dong in both buying and selling directions. The global USD weakened significantly, trading at around 100 points.
The central exchange rate for VND/USD today was announced by the State Bank of Vietnam at 23,885 VND/USD, an increase of 15 dong compared to the closing rate of the trading session on December 27th.

Currently, the permitted exchange rate for commercial banks ranges from 23,400 to 25,029 VND/USD. The US dollar exchange rate has also been set by the State Bank of Vietnam's Exchange Department within the buying and selling range of 23,400 to 25,029 VND/USD.
This morning, the USD exchange rate and domestic foreign exchange rates saw a series of upward adjustments at various banks. Specifically, Vietcombank's buying rate was 24,110 and the selling rate was 24,480, an increase of 10 dong compared to the trading session on December 27th. The current buying and selling prices of USD are in the range of 23,400 - 25,300 VND/USD.
Gold prices surged dramatically, hovering close to 80 million VND per tael.
Domestic gold prices remained high, hovering around 79.5 million VND/ounce, while global gold prices continued their strong upward trend.
As of 5:00 AM on December 28, 2023, the gold prices on the exchanges of several companies were as follows:
DOJI lists the price of 9999 gold at 77.80 million VND/ounce for buying and 79.50 million VND/ounce for selling.

Meanwhile, at Mi Hong Gold and Gemstone Company, the listed price of SJC gold at the time of the survey was 77.90 - 79.20 million VND/ounce (buying price - selling price).
At Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd., the price of SJC gold is also being traded at 77.90 – 79.45 million VND/ounce (buying price - selling price). Meanwhile, at Bao Tin Manh Hai, it is being traded at 77.80 – 79.70 million VND/ounce (buying price – selling price).
According to Kitco, the spot price of gold in the world market at 5:00 AM Vietnam time today was $2,077.595 per ounce. Today's price is $9.455 per ounce higher than yesterday's price. Converted using the current exchange rate at Vietcombank, the world gold price is approximately VND 60.183 million per tael (excluding taxes and fees). Therefore, the price of SJC gold bars remains VND 17.617 million per tael higher than the international gold price.
Prices of "black gold" have surged across the board, reaching a high of 85,000 VND/kg.
Current pepper prices in the Central Highlands and Southeast regions continue to rise sharply, with traders buying at prices ranging from 81,500 to 85,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, pepper prices in the Central Highlands increased by 1,000 VND/kg, fluctuating between 81,500 and 84,500 VND/kg. In particular, pepper from Chu Se (Gia Lai) was purchased by traders at 81,500 VND/kg, while pepper from Dak Lak and Dak Nong was purchased at 84,500 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, in the Southeast region, pepper prices fluctuated from 82,500 to 85,000 VND/kg. Specifically, pepper from Ba Ria - Vung Tau was purchased at 82,500 VND/kg, an increase of 1,500 VND/kg; and pepper from Binh Phuoc was purchased at 85,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg.
Thus, from the end of November 2023 onwards, pepper prices in key producing regions have continuously increased sharply. Pepper prices peaked in the past month at 86,000 VND/kg in Dak Lak and Dak Nong.
According to preliminary reports from the General Department of Customs, exports in the first half of December 2023 reached 10,069 tons of various types of pepper, with a value of US$37.80 million. Cumulative exports up to mid-December 2023 reached 255,681 tons, an increase of 35.32% in volume and 0.72% in value compared to the same period last year. The average export price of pepper during the period was US$3,755/ton, a decrease of 2.19% compared to the average export price in November 2023.
