The leader of the “Friends of Love” Club, Nguyen Binh Nam, shared many touching stories about the journey of helping people at evacuation points in the highlands of Tra Van, Tra Leng, Tra Tap… by teachers and commune officials. Amidst the overwhelming information about floods and landslides, the images of people helping each other “overcome the ordeal” from the disaster area brought a warm feeling to the entire Quang Nam community.
However, that is still just a very thin slice of the many useful activities of the local community and the grassroots forces of Da Nang city for people affected by natural disasters and floods. Sharing hardships in times of danger, even though the work is small, brings about something greater than anything, the warmth of human love ignited by kindness in the moment of life and death.
Contribute to good deeds
Never before have the people of Quang Nam feared the sound of rain as much as they do now. The rain has rotted the ground. Thousands of large and small landslides have collapsed and damaged many houses and residential areas in the mountainous region. In such hardship, the spirit of solidarity among the people and grassroots cadres and party members has been promoted, creating a solid foundation to help the community overcome the danger.

When heavy rains poured down on Tak Po, in a short time, 6 houses of the people were eroded and there were signs of further landslides. So they had to be evacuated. The race against landslides was quickly deployed, as soon as the Village Management Board "gave the order".
In the midst of the pouring rain, teachers from Tak Po school, Chu Van An primary boarding school for ethnic minorities (Tra Tap commune) and local people carried and moved furniture and wooden frames from many houses to a safe gathering point... The images posted by teacher Tra Thi Thu, sharing the action of helping people receive strong emotions from viewers.
In times of danger, when everything seemed to be at a dead end, the timely cooperation of the community and teachers was a great comfort, helping people whose homes were affected feel more secure.
After more than 10 years of living in the village, Ms. Thu said she witnessed many beautiful actions of the Ca Dong and Xe Dang communities in natural disasters and epidemics. During the recent days of floods and rains, that spirit of solidarity was once again "kindled" by the community. The teachers did not stand aside, their bright smiles during the rare moments of rest gave them more strength to "race" against the mountain rain and the danger of landslides.
Happy when people are safe
On the afternoon of October 28, torrential rain poured down on Tra Leng. Immediately, two special working groups were activated by the local authorities. Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Minh Nghia commune said that all members of the commune's Civil Defense Command joined forces with the biggest goal: not to let people be isolated and suffer from prolonged hunger.

During these consecutive days of rain and floods, Tra Leng commune officials went to the people, both to survey the flood situation and to organize evacuation and food supplies. Shuttle trucks carrying food and drinking water went into the mountains, where the Ca Dong and Mo Nong people were taking shelter and waiting. Five houses of the people at Ong Sup and Ong Thai (village 2) collapsed, commune officials immediately came to help transport materials, survey the terrain to rebuild temporary houses, helping people have a safe place to live.
“Dozens of landslides appeared, many roads were impassable. With no other choice, we flexibly used motorbikes to transport food and drinking water to people at evacuation points. While traveling, we kept an eye out for landslides, and the front was covered in mud, but the members of the working group still tried to overcome them, determined to be there soon to encourage and support people during the heavy rain and floods. Luckily, all the people were safe,” said Mr. Nghia.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh, Chairman of Tra Van Commune People's Committee, said that the local experience in dealing with landslides was promoted right before the flood season, helping to prevent high risks for the community. Evacuation points were set up by the local government, flood information was just updated, dozens of households at risk of landslides were mobilized to take shelter. Food and provisions were prepared after connecting with benefactors, and people and commune officials happily cooked meaningful meals together.
Warm meal for the sick
On the morning of October 30, a group of women from Group 5 (Tak Po village, Nam Tra My commune) cooked nearly 50 meals to support patients and their families being treated at Nam Tra My Regional Medical Center.

Doctor Tran Van Thu, Director of Nam Tra My Regional Medical Center, said that due to prolonged rain and storms, many roads leading to the communes were eroded. Some patients, although cured, could not return home. The center encouraged them to stay to ensure their safety.
Over the past few days, Nam Tra My Regional Medical Center has flexibly used resources to support, but still encountered many difficulties, so it called for help from the community. Thanks to this support fund, the unit can ensure on-site meals (3 meals/day) for patients during their stay due to floods.
