
On December 8, in response to a reporter's question about Vietnam's reaction to the tense developments that have broken out between Cambodia and Thailand in the border area between the two countries, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: Vietnam expressed deep concern about the current tense developments between Cambodia and Thailand.
“As a neighboring country and a member of ASEAN, Vietnam calls on both sides to exercise utmost restraint, not to use force, fully implement the ceasefire agreement, continue dialogue, peacefully and satisfactorily resolve disagreements on the basis of fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated.
Ms. Pham Thu Hang also emphasized that Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to promoting dialogue and implementing the ceasefire agreement between the two countries to soon restore peace and cooperation on the border in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, for the long-term interests of both sides and the region.
