'Death hole' incident in central Da Nang: Investor required to fix immediately

On the evening of December 3, the Department of Construction of Da Nang city sent information to the press about the "death hole" that appeared in the city center.

The crater is more than 3 meters wide, more than 10 meters long, and about 2 meters deep.

Specifically, at 2:10 p.m. the same day, the area of ​​Nguyen Cong Tru Street - from Ngo Quyen Street to Tran Hung Dao Street (adjacent to the Capital Square 3 Urban Area project) collapsed. The collapsed area created a 15m long, 6m wide hole; the drainage pipe under the road was broken; 2 cars parked in the area fell into the sinkhole.

Regarding damage, the incident caused two cars to be damaged, but there were no human casualties.

According to the initial preliminary assessment, the Capital Square 3 Urban Area project is under underground construction, the surrounding wall system of the project at the location adjacent to Nguyen Cong Tru Street is open. When it rains heavily, rainwater carries sand from the area near the location of the open surrounding wall into the project, causing the foundation to collapse, and the stormwater drain located on Nguyen Cong Tru Street (adjacent to the project). Water from the drain erodes the soil in the area, causing the roadbed and technical infrastructure in the area to collapse.

Immediately after receiving the information, the leaders of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, the Department of Construction of the city, together with An Hai Ward and other units, organized an inspection of the scene and requested the investor to have a solution to immediately fix the problem. Currently, the investor and units have taken measures to isolate the dangerous area and implement temporary measures to ensure safety at the construction site and the area. The units are also organizing a specific assessment of the cause, establishing measures, and organizing to fix the construction affecting neighboring constructions according to regulations.

The Department of Construction of Da Nang City also provided information on the project name: Capital Square 3 Urban Area. The construction site is plot number 100, map number 57, An Hai Ward, Da Nang City. The investor is SIH Real Estate Company Limited. Currently, this project is under underground construction.
