Only 5km from Hoi An ancient town, Tra Nhieu community eco- tourism village (Nam Phuoc commune, Da Nang city) is strongly reviving, becoming an attractive destination with 10 hectares of water coconut forest and unique handicraft villages.
According to historical documents, Tra Nhieu was once an important part of the international trade network under the Thanh Chiem citadel, even before the Faifo trading port (Hoi An).

However, since the 16th century, when the position of the seaport changed, Tra Nhieu gradually retreated into the "backstage of history", and traces of a bustling trading village gradually faded away.
Today, Tra Nhieu still retains the characteristics of a river mouth - sea mouth village, attracting tourists by its rustic natural landscape and preserved traditional cultural values.
The people here are known as the "land of 7 professions" because they are proficient in seafaring, fishing, weaving sedge mats, making handicrafts, weaving basket boats, weaving water coconut leaves and making Quang noodles.

Although not far from Hoi An, Tra Nhieu once "fell asleep" amid the development movements. The turning point came in July 2010, when the village officially launched a community ecotourism model. About 80 households were trained in tourism by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, opening a new page for Tra Nhieu.
Artisan Tran Van Hung (65 years old) is one of the pioneers who has maintained green tourism and experiential tourism for more than 30 years. Ignoring the "rumors" while continuously bringing Western tourists to the village, Mr. Hung has reaped the "sweet fruit" he deserves.
He connects with many households making mats, pulling nets, rowing boats to catch fish, boat owners and other professional groups, creating a diverse chain of links for tourists to visit and experience.
"Ecotourism, craft village tourism, and experiencing the local life are of great interest to Western tourists. Thanks to that, many traditional occupations that seemed to have disappeared have gradually been restored," Mr. Hung shared.

Mr. Pham Minh Tam’s Co Mot basket boat service is also a successful example. Having been in operation for 8 years, this facility mainly serves visitors to visit the coconut forest and cast nets.
On peak days, Mr. Tam welcomes 50-100 guests, mainly foreigners, with the price of boating and food services ranging from 200,000-250,000 VND/person.
Currently, there are 15-20 people participating in Mr. Tam's basket boat team. "Many households that were previously poor have now improved their lives thanks to tourism," Mr. Tam said.
Previously, the People's Committee of Duy Xuyen district (formerly Quang Nam province) deployed training on customer service skills and organized study tours to learn from models in other localities.
Community tourism models not only contribute to economic development and job creation, but also link tourism with local culture, helping Tra Nhieu regain its position and develop sustainably.
Rural agricultural tourism is becoming a driving force for Da Nang’s development. Developing tourism is not only to enrich the locality but also to preserve culture, improve people’s lives and spread the unique values of this land to domestic and foreign friends.
