Labor export, opening a way out of poverty

The labor export movement in Ea Rieng commune is opening up an effective way out of poverty, helping many families change their lives, creating a new look for the rural area with many difficulties.

Introducing the spacious house that still smells of new paint, Mr. Le Tat Minh (village 20) proudly said: "This is the result of my son's labor after more than two years working in Japan."

After completing his military service in 2021, Mr. Le Nhu Thuan - Mr. Minh's son - registered to work abroad in Japan. Having a job with a stable income, Mr. Thuan regularly sends money home to help his parents every month. A few months ago, he sent another 200 million VND for his family to build a new house.

The life of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ha's family in the same village also changed thanks to working abroad. The family was poor, and Mrs. Ha was seriously ill. Since 2021, her son has gone to Japan to work, regularly sending money home to take care of living expenses and medical expenses for his parents. "The money my son sends home every month helps my husband and I have a source of spending money, and recently we have also renovated the toilet and bathroom to be clean and tidy," Mrs. Ha said.

Not only does it help families stabilize their economy , overseas labor also creates a stepping stone for many young workers to accumulate capital and experience to return home to start a business. A typical example is the case of Mr. Nguyen Huy Hieu (village 9), who went to Korea to work from 2018 to 2022. Mr. Hieu saved a considerable amount of money and sent it to his parents to buy a piece of land near the commune center. Returning home, he got married, built a house and opened a grocery store right on the central road of Ea Rieng.

After returning from working abroad, Mr. Nguyen Huy Hieu (left) had capital to open a business store.

In Ea Rieng commune, the labor export movement is currently quite developed, with the main markets being Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Mr. Hoa Quang Binh, Head of the Commune Cultural Office, said that each year, the amount of remittances sent by workers is up to billions of dong - a valuable resource for a remote commune like Ea Rieng. Many households that were previously poor now have decent houses and have the conditions to invest in production. In particular, those who have returned from working abroad bring with them new thinking, boldly purchasing machinery, developing services or working at businesses in the area.

To create favorable conditions for people, especially poor and near-poor households, the Ea Rieng commune government is implementing many support policies such as preferential loans, vocational training, and reputable labor market consulting. At the same time, it is propagating to workers to comply with regulations and return home on time to maintain local prestige and create more opportunities for other workers.
