Advertising is considered the main source of revenue for content creators on YouTube, so in the future, YouTube may not allow users to have a smooth experience even if they are willing to pay for the first few seconds of watching an ad.
According to Android Police, the countdown timer before users press the skip button on YouTube ads may disappear in the future.

Recently, when using the desktop version of the app, a gray rectangular space appeared over the timer when ads appeared. This issue also occurred on the Android version. However, instead of the gray rectangle over the timer, the mobile version no longer had a timer. Even without the timer, the skip ad button still appeared after a certain amount of time.
It appears this is a deliberate move by YouTube to make users believe that the ads are impossible to skip.
In reality, YouTube wants viewers to see more ads because that's how the platform makes more money. It's also a way to attract users to subscribe to its ad-free Premium service.
The ad-free Premium service was launched in 2018. However, after its launch, YouTube received a lot of negative feedback from free users regarding the increased number of ads.
