There are many causes of nausea, including pregnancy, food poisoning, stress, and gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

According to Eating Well , certain foods can help reduce nausea and speed up recovery.

Ginger

Ginger has been scientifically proven to help reduce nausea symptoms. Pam Hartnett, a registered dietitian in the US, says: "Studies have shown that ginger speeds up gastric emptying and promotes contractions. Both of these actions can combat nausea."

Ginger is also used as a nausea reliever for people with cancer, especially those undergoing chemotherapy.

Pam Hartnett shared that you can add ginger to your meals, drink ginger tea, or eat ginger candy to reduce feelings of nausea.

Apple

A 2021 study in BMJ Open on pregnant women found that apples were one of the most tolerable foods for morning sickness. Participants in the study were also given watermelon, cookies, and bread, but they reported that apples were easier to eat and did not cause nausea.

A study published in the Journal of Research in Medical Science in 2021 showed that apple syrup may help reduce nausea in people undergoing cancer treatment. Researchers suggest that the antioxidants in apples help reduce the vomiting reflex in the body. Additionally, healthcare professionals recommend applesauce after suffering from gastritis.

Protein-rich foods

Protein is actually a nutrient that can help prevent nausea. A 2023 study in the journal Nutrients found a link between eating more protein and reduced nausea in pregnant women.

According to Hartnett, liquid protein is beneficial in minimizing feelings of nausea.

Electrolyte drinks

Vomiting can lead to dehydration. Therefore, electrolyte drinks will help the body rehydrate and recover faster.

Although there are no specific studies showing that drinking electrolyte drinks cures nausea, they can certainly help your body feel better after vomiting.
