Elsevier Publishing has just released its ranking of the world's most influential scientists . This list was compiled by a team of scientists from Stanford University (USA), based on the Scopus database.
The experts' evaluation method is based on complex assessment metrics, not simply counting citations, and therefore yields accurate results when updating a database of over 100,000 of the most cited scientists (from the Scopus database).
Their rankings are based on key criteria such as: the composite score; the total number of citations (excluding self-citations); the Hirsch h-index; the Schreiber hm-index; the number of citations for articles published as a single author; the number of citations for articles with the first author (first name - first author and corresponding author), and the last author, etc.
According to Elsevier's assessment, this list shows which scientists have the greatest impact in their field. The ranking considers things like how often other scientists mention their work. If a scientist is on the top list of scientists in this Stanford Elsevier category in 2024, it means their work is truly important and useful to other scientists.
Among Vietnamese scientists working regularly in the country, nine scientists are ranked in the top 10,000 worldwide , and 60 scientists are ranked in the top 100,000 most influential cited scientists in the world in 2024. Compared to 2023, this list increased by 13 people. The evaluation criteria in the ranking include scientific influence index, total number of citations (excluding self-citations), and contributions as the main author or associate author.
Nine scientists will be ranked among the top 10,000 in the world in 2024, including: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoang Son (Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Bach (Hanoi Medical University); Prof. Vo Xuan Vinh and Dr. Nguyen Phuc Canh (Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics); Dr. Tran Nguyen Hai and Dr. Hoang Nhat Duc (Duy Tan University); Assoc. Prof. Hoang Anh Tuan (Dong A University); and Dr. Pham Thai Binh (University of Transport Technology).
Expanding the ranking list to the top 100,000, in 2024 Vietnam had 60 scientists, an increase of 13 compared to last year. In addition to the 9 highly ranked scientists mentioned above, there are 51 more Vietnamese scientists listed, including: Nguyen Xuan Hung (HUTECH University), Nguyen Thoi Trung (Van Lang University), Vo Dai Viet (Nguyen Tat Thanh University), Bui Quoc Tinh (Duy Tan University), Le Ba Phong (Hanoi University of Industry), Vuong Quan Hoang (Phenikaa University), Chu Dinh Toi (International School, VNU Hanoi), Ngo Thai Hung (Ho Chi Minh City University of Finance and Marketing).
