Talking to VietNamNet reporters on the occasion of appearing in the movie Getting Rich with Ghosts 2: Diamond War, which has just been released, artist Hoai Linh shared about his daily life - his world without the spotlight.
Currently, Hoai Linh spends most of his time at home in Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City with his mother.
Ms. Le Phuong is 87 years old this year, not sick but her health is not as good as before so she has limited mobility. In the past, she often traveled between the US and Vietnam, now she just wants to stay in her homeland, living with her son.
She prefers living in the city to the Ancestral Temple in Long Phuoc, Thu Duc because it is densely populated, near the market, and every day people come and talk and laugh.

Every day, Hoai Linh wakes up at 7am, lies in the sun for a while before getting out of bed to feed the birds. If he doesn’t have work, he will spend time visiting the garden.
Contrary to popular belief, Hoai Linh does not take care of the entire 7,000 square meter Ancestral Temple by himself. "I occasionally come back to the temple to cut grass, water the plants, and prune the branches, but there are people there who do that regularly," he said.
Occasionally, the Meritorious Artist can go to the garden house in Dong Nai for a few days. Here, he grows a large durian garden. The junior artists love it, and whoever comes, he picks the fruit for them to take home.
Hoai Linh used to be one of the highest paid artists in Vietnam. There was a time when he appeared on television so much that the audience reacted negatively. The artist said he accepted this to save enough money to fulfill his greatest wish in life: to build a temple to worship his ancestors.

During the years Hoai Linh was absent from showbiz, many audiences wondered how he lived.
Meritorious Artist said that besides art, he does almost nothing else like business or investment because he has no talent.
In 2009, he founded Dai Co Viet Company, specializing in training actors and organizing programs. A year later, he and a friend opened a noodle shop.
"I don't have the blood of a businessman, and even if I tried, I would never succeed," the 6X artist concluded.
Hoai Linh jokingly said that many years ago he bought a piece of land in Nha Be district for more than 2 billion VND, planning to sell it after 10 years. "After 6 years, people pulled electric wires through it, the price dropped to only 1.7 billion VND. If you buy land like that, what business can you do?", he said with a laugh.

When asked: "If there are no more job offers in showbiz, what will your life be like?", artist Hoai Linh said it would not be affected much because he and his family are stable. His mother lives with him but his sisters and brothers take care of her together.
He lives simply, eating 2 meals a day, just a little vegetables and meat, otherwise he can still eat dried foods and fish sauce like he has for many years.
"To be honest, I don't need much food and savings anymore. I've taken care of my family, and my biggest wish in life, the Ancestral Temple, has been completed. Now, I feel at ease and don't have to think too much," the artist shared.
Hoai Linh added: "The same goes for running the temple. My family will not be involved in the future. I am training a new generation so that when I am old, they can take care of it for me."
Hoai Linh is sought after by audiences when performing in localities.
