Nestled deep within the Ma Da forest, thousands of bougainvillea trees along a 25km stretch of road bloom in vibrant colors, painting the landscape with a dreamy hue amidst the lush greenery.
This season, bougainvillea flowers are in full bloom along the road that leads into the forest. |
While driving into the Ma Da forest in the Dong Nai Cultural and Natural Reserve (Vinh Cuu district, Dong Nai province), Mr. Tran Dinh Hung, Head of the Forest Ranger Unit of the reserve, pointed towards Ma Da and said, "That is a vast primeval forest, known as the 'green lung' of the Southeast region."
After driving a few kilometers, rows of bougainvillea flowers bloomed along the roadside, displaying a vibrant Hue purple hue. Mr. Hung proudly showed off this 25km-long flower-lined road, which runs deep into the primeval forest and leads to three national-level historical sites. He then exclaimed, "The flowers are so beautiful during this season; everyone who passes by is captivated."
The road stretches 25km and is lined with approximately 12,000 bougainvillea trees. |
Having been involved with the forest here for over 30 years and being one of the first people to plant bougainvillea trees along this road, he said that this was an idea from the Dong Nai Cultural and Natural Reserve.
The flowers were planted in 2008 with the hope of creating a focal point along the route leading to three national-level historical sites, while also creating a landscape to "unleash" the potential for ecotourism in the vast forest.
"Earlier this year, the province approved the ecotourism, resort, and entertainment project for the Dong Nai Cultural and Natural Reserve for the period 2021-2030, with a total investment of 991 billion VND," he boasted.

Initially, the reserve planted both frangipani and bougainvillea. But after a while, bougainvillea thrived and bloomed profusely because it could withstand the dry weather and was well-suited to the region's soil, so the reserve chose it as the main crop to plant along the road.
Mr. Hung revealed that the number of bougainvillea trees here increases every year. To date, the entire street has about 12,000 trees, many of which are 15-16 years old. As for frangipani trees, there are still about 6,000-7,000 trees.
Stopping the car on the slope, Mr. Hung said that bougainvillea blooms all year round. Regardless of rain or shine, the bougainvillea always displays its beauty. However, the peak blooming season and the most beautiful time is in late spring and early summer.

Tourists and passersby love taking photos on this flower-lined road. Currently, bougainvillea has only been planted on one side of the road. On the other side, the nature reserve plans to plant acacia trees, which bloom beautifully like Japanese cherry blossoms.
"In the forest, landscaping requires careful consideration of what flowering trees to plant. The pink cassia tree not only creates a beautiful landscape but is also a native tree already present in the natural forest," Mr. Hung shared.
According to locals, the best time to visit the bougainvillea-lined road is from April to June. This is when the bougainvillea flowers are in full bloom, displaying their vibrant colors and creating a truly breathtaking scene.
Mr. Tran Duc Son (a resident of Ma Da commune, Vinh Cuu district) said that, normally before the Lunar New Year, households and conservation area forces usually clear the grass along the roadside to prepare for the most beautiful bougainvillea flowering season.
This bougainvillea-lined road is special because it's located in the Ma Da forest area, so the surrounding scenery is very pristine and romantic. On the way into the forest, visitors will feel like they've stepped into another world, completely separate from the hustle and bustle of the city.
By visiting in person, experiencing the bougainvillea-lined paths through the forest, admiring the blooming clusters of flowers, and enjoying the fresh air, visitors can truly appreciate the unique beauty of this place. At the same time, they can discover the mysteries of the Ma Da primeval forest.
This place is famous for its diverse and rich ecosystem and many beautiful landscapes. Visitors can explore the pristine beauty of the forest and admire the butterflies. They can also participate in other activities such as camping and group games.
