On September 19th, the Ministry of Education and Training sent a document to provincial Departments of Education and Training regarding the organization of teaching and learning for schools damaged by storms and floods.
Accordingly, the recent floods have caused severe damage to schools, forcing students in some localities to miss classes for many days. As soon as the floodwaters receded, local authorities and schools made efforts to repair the damage and welcome students back to school. However, some schools and school branches were too severely damaged or isolated to resume teaching.
To ensure the continuation of learning for all students and the completion of the school year program as planned, the Ministry of Education and Training requests that provincial Departments of Education and Training direct schools to implement flexible teaching solutions that are appropriate to practical conditions, ensuring the progress of the program according to the school year timeframe without putting pressure or overloading teachers and students.
In particular, the Ministry of Education and Training noted the need to review and develop appropriate plans to bring students from schools and school branches that have not yet reopened back to the main school or other schools in the area to continue their studies; for students who have to travel too far from home, appropriate plans should be developed to support them with boarding or semi-boarding programs while the impact of the floods is being addressed.
The Ministry of Education and Training requests that teachers from schools in the affected areas be mobilized to support teachers and students in schools damaged by storms and floods to organize teaching and make up missed classes for students who had to miss school. For students who are unable to attend school due to difficult circumstances, schools should have appropriate plans to maintain their learning, such as assigning homework, sending teachers to provide direct support to individual students or groups of students at their residences, ensuring safety and effectiveness.
Local authorities are adjusting school education plans and developing remedial learning plans for students to ensure they complete the first semester and the entire school year according to the general education plan of the locality and the country.
