Excellent students majoring in Mathematics are considered for a scholarship of 24 million VND per year if they have a GPA of 8 or higher or win prizes in certain competitions.

The Ministry of Education and Training issued regulations on reviewing and granting scholarships to full-time students majoring in Mathematics in early June. This is part of the national key program for developing Mathematics in the 2021-2030 period.

Students majoring in Mathematics, Computer Science , Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Mathematics, and Informatics at universities can receive a scholarship of 2.4 million VND per month.

According to the Ministry, this scholarship aims to attract and improve the quality of students majoring in Mathematics, thereby developing high-quality human resources in teaching, research and application of Mathematics. The maximum number of scholarships each year is 150, divided into two batches, corresponding to two semesters. Each student is considered and granted a scholarship for no more than 8 semesters.

For first-year students, the first semester scholarship is awarded to those who win first or second prize in the provincial-level high school student competition or higher.

Second-year students and above must achieve an average score of 8 or higher in the previous year in the Mathematics group, and no lower than 4/10 in other subjects. Students who have been awarded scholarships in the first semester will continue to be considered for scholarships in the following semester if they maintain the above results.

All students considered for scholarships must have good conduct or training scores or better.

Due to the limited number of scholarships, the Ministry of Education and Training divides priority groups when considering.

The first group is talented and advanced undergraduate students in Mathematics, whose scientific research has won prizes at the Ministry level or higher or won prizes at the National Mathematics Olympiad for students and pupils.

The second group is female students who have not received a scholarship from any other organization or individual during the scholarship review period.

Next, the Ministry gives priority to students who are relatives of martyrs, children of wounded and sick soldiers, children of people infected with Agent Orange, heroes of the armed forces, heroes of labor, and ethnic minorities.

Finally, the scholarship is given priority to students studying at the Faculty of Mathematics - Mechanics - Informatics of the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; the Faculty of Mathematics - Statistics of Quy Nhon University; the Faculty of Mathematics - Informatics of the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

The National Key Program for Mathematics Development for the 2021-2030 period, chaired by the Ministry of Education and Training, aims to have 5 universities in the world's top 500 in Mathematics by 2030, including at least two in the top 400. Some other notable goals are to double the number of international publications compared to the previous period, have at least 5 main research directions in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics in Industry; and train about 400 PhDs in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
