Regarding the plan to ensure traffic safety after closing Binh Trieu 1 bridge, Mr. Nguyen Kien Giang , Deputy Head of the Department of Traffic Works Maintenance and Operation Management (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) said that on August 26, Binh Trieu 1 bridge and Binh Trieu 2 bridge were adjusted to organize traffic to serve the construction of raising the clearance of Binh Trieu 1 bridge. Traffic situation was stable in the first week, then there was a prolonged traffic jam on National Highway 13 and Pham Van Dong street.

In order to limit traffic congestion and ensure traffic order and safety during the construction period, the department organizes traffic reversal on alley 153 of National Highway 13 (Binh Thanh Ward). On the branch road from Binh Loi Bridge to National Highway 13 (from Nguyen Xi Street to National Highway 13), depending on the actual traffic situation, the department may prohibit cars from circulating during the morning rush hour and all types of vehicles from circulating during the afternoon rush hour, in order to limit the number of vehicles entering the roundabout.

Mr. Nguyen Kien Giang, Deputy Head of the Department of Traffic Works Maintenance and Operation Management (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) informed at the press conference.

In addition, at the roundabout intersection under the Pham Van Dong overpass - National Highway 13, the department installed additional traffic lights to regulate the flow of vehicles entering Binh Trieu 2 bridge.

The Department also requested the construction unit to speed up the construction progress, focusing on performing construction at night, and reserving maximum road surface for traffic during the day. Immediately repair damaged road surfaces at the branch roads from National Highway 13 to Binh Trieu 2 Bridge, at the bridge abutments to ensure smooth and safe traffic during construction, in accordance with each bridge lifting phase.

The Department also requested the Eastern Bus Station Company Limited to adjust the departure time of passenger buses at the old Eastern Bus Station (on Dinh Bo Linh Street), not to operate during rush hours in the morning and afternoon; at the same time, notify bus companies to choose appropriate routes to the old Eastern Bus Station, avoiding using National Highway 13 for operation.

The Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center (under the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City) is constructing the project to raise the clearance of Binh Trieu 1 Bridge on National Highway 13 and Binh Phuoc Bridge on National Highway 1.

The project started in the first quarter of 2025 with a construction period of 8 months, expected to be completed in 2025.

From August 26, the entire Binh Trieu 1 bridge structure began to be "lifted" up by 1.08m. This is a way to increase clearance, helping ships and boats pass more easily on the Saigon River.
