That is the sharing about textbooks by Professor Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, at the workshop "STEM/STEAM Education and Digital Transformation inFPT Education", organized by FPT University Can Tho on August 16.
The workshop was attended by more than 200 teachers, principals, teachers and education specialists from many high schools in the Mekong Delta region.
Professor Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences , said that current technological capabilities are sufficient for electronic textbooks to go through the digitalization phase.

According to Professor Le Anh Vinh, digital transformation plays an important role in all fields, including education and training. Digital transformation in education has many aspects such as infrastructure, security, teaching and learning support, administration, etc. Therefore, schools need to identify the important contents that need to be focused on investing in the appropriate order.
Up to now, the education sector has been doing a lot of work related to digital transformation to improve the quality of teaching and learning. For example, managing learning resources, supporting teachers in teaching, checking student scores... However, there are still areas that have not been fully invested in, such as infrastructure, digital security, and connectivity.
In addition, teachers also have many concerns, especially about the school staff's lack of capacity and slowness to catch up with technology. This concern requires a capacity support program for managers, teachers, and specialized staff in the school.
Towards "smart" textbooks in digital transformation
Professor Le Anh Vinh believes that digital transformation is a comprehensive problem, requiring fundamental solutions and a sustainable roadmap. If investment in infrastructure, smart classrooms, and electronic libraries is not accompanied by teachers' capacity, it is easy to lead to waste. Therefore, schools need to have serious investment, with a long-term vision instead of projects to solve individual problems.
A good sign is that through research, technology coverage in Vietnam is relatively high. The readiness of students and the foundation of teachers for digital transformation is also relatively good. What we need are major policies, investment in infrastructure and determination of the management team to promote increasingly modern teaching and learning.

Professor Le Anh Vinh added that digital transformation has many steps, the first of which is digitization. We have made a number of electronic textbooks, but in reality they are just scanned documents uploaded to the system. Teachers and students can easily access the website to get information to prepare lessons and study. Although it is much more convenient than paper versions, the requirements of digital transformation do not stop there. From now on, textbooks must increase interactivity and experience in the digital environment.
This reality requires the education sector to have smart textbooks that integrate many technological features, artificial intelligence, etc. There, information related to learning will be collected and updated to support teaching. The textbooks will increase interactivity, and can identify students' strengths and weaknesses. From there, teachers will know what problems to focus on to solve and provide appropriate learning content. Currently, technology is capable of doing this.
