TPO – Having received an investment of over 600 billion VND and being put into use on April 30th but then having to be closed for further completion, the Thieu Giang and Dong Thang interchanges on the Mai Son – National Highway 45 expressway have officially opened to traffic on National Day, September 2nd.

After more than a year of construction, the two additional interchanges for the Mai Son ( Ninh Binh ) – National Highway 45 (Thanh Hoa) expressway, phase 1, namely Thieu Giang (investment of over 450 billion VND) and Dong Thang (investment of over 150 billion VND), have been completed and are officially open to traffic. |

At the Thieu Giang interchange (Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province ), vehicles traveling from the expressway can now easily access national highways (QL1, QL45) and provincial roads. |

The completion of the Thieu Giang interchange also makes it the shortest route for vehicles traveling from Hanoi to the districts of Thieu Hoa, Hoang Hoa, Tho Xuan, Yen Dinh, etc. (and vice versa). |

In addition, the completion of the Thieu Giang intersection will help reduce the density of vehicles converging on the Dong Xuan intersection (in the center of Thanh Hoa) before dispersing in different directions, causing difficulties for travel during holidays and Tet. |

At the Dong Thang interchange (Trieu Son district, Thanh Hoa province), vehicles from the expressway are now easily accessing the districts of Trieu Son, Nong Cong, and Tinh Gia… |

The Dong Thang interchange is the 7th (and final) interchange on the main route of the Mai Son – National Highway 45 expressway. |

After a period of construction, the Dong Thang intersection has now been completed and has signage installed for easy access by vehicles. |

Although the main interchange construction is complete, the toll booths at the Thieu Giang and Dong Thang interchanges are still vacant (not yet built). |

After the two interchanges became operational, an inconvenience arose: the speed limit sign (indicating "EXIT"), which restricts speed to 60km/h when approaching the interchange, was placed too abruptly and too far from the interchange. Many drivers reported that vehicles traveling at a maximum speed of 90km/h were surprised to see the 60km/h sign. Therefore, many believe that appropriate speed limit signs are needed to avoid surprising drivers and prevent accidents. |
According to the design, the entire Mai Son – National Highway 45 expressway has a total of 7 interchanges, of which phase 1, opened to traffic in September 2023, includes 5 interchanges – namely: Mai Son interchange, Dong Giao interchange (in Ninh Binh province); Gia Mieu interchange, Ha Linh interchange, Dong Xuan interchange (in Thanh Hoa province).
Phase 2 of the project will include the construction of two additional interchanges: Thieu Giang and Dong Thang (in Thanh Hoa province). However, in order to further maximize the investment efficiency of Phase 1 of the North-South Expressway and promote local socio-economic development, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province has proposed to the Government and the Ministry of Transport to implement and complete these two interchanges immediately from Phase 1.
The Mai Son – National Highway 45 expressway project is over 63 km long with a total investment of over 12,000 billion VND, and was opened to traffic in the third quarter of 2023.
