Reporting at the 2025 meeting of the Southeast region rare blood group club, which took place recently, specialist doctor Lam Thi My Hanh, Cho Ray Blood Transfusion Center, said that the Southeast region rare blood group club was established in 2010 with an initial number of 154 members.
By 2024, from voluntary blood donations, the group's membership had increased to 488. Regardless of day or night, when receiving information that a patient needed blood, most members rushed to the blood receiving place to support the patient.

Thanks to that, many cases have been saved, such as the British patient with blood type O Rh(-) which only 0.1% of Vietnamese people have; the autologous stem cell transplant for a patient with hematological cancer with blood type B Rh(-) in August 2024; the heart transplant from a brain-dead donor in September 2024...
The club members have actively contributed to the journey of ensuring rare blood sources for Cho Ray Hospital and the region; strengthening connections and support among members and spreading the spirit of sharing and humanity in the community.
According to Dr. Hanh, the rare blood club in the Southeast region has some advantages, with the attention of leaders at all levels, enthusiastic volunteers and a network covering the entire Southeast region.
However, the club has not yet received official funding, so it lacks a budget to maintain its operations, only enough to support travel. The group has not yet connected with other rare blood clubs.
Therefore, in the future direction of activities, the club aims to coordinate more closely with hospitals and blood transfusion centers in establishing procedures for coordinating emergency cases and supporting donors; mobilizing sponsorship and socialized resources; enhancing multi-channel communication...

Specialist Doctor 2 Pham Thanh Viet, Deputy Director of Cho Ray Hospital, sent his gratitude and deep appreciation to members of the rare blood group. He affirmed that blood is a priceless gift given by life, an irreplaceable medicine in the treatment and emergency care of patients.
Among them, there are people who possess rare blood types, especially Rh(-), which only account for a very small percentage in the community.
"You, people with Rh(-) blood, are not only special in your biology, but also special in your spirit of being willing to share your life with patients in need of blood in an emergency.
"The establishment and maintenance of the club is a practical, humane action and has great significance for the work of saving lives," said Dr. Viet.
