(CLO) Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Friday at the APEC CEO Summit within the framework of the APEC 2024 Summit Week that unilateralism and protectionism must be rejected in favor of economic globalization that benefits everyone.
Speaking at the event in Peru, Xi said that attempts to block economic cooperation under any pretext were a step backward. "We should ensure that economic globalization produces more positive results and is brought to a new stage that is more dynamic, more inclusive and more sustainable."
" The world has entered a new period of turmoil and change, unilateralism and protectionism are spreading, and the fragmentation of the world economy has increased," Xi said. "Hindering economic cooperation under various pretexts, deliberately isolating the interdependent world, is reversing the course of history."

He added that the principles of "planning together, building together and benefiting together" should be adhered to, the representation and voice of the Global South should be continuously strengthened, and all countries should be guaranteed equal rights, equal opportunities and equal rules in conducting international economic cooperation.
Global prosperity and stability cannot be achieved when the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, Xi Jinping said, noting that true development means common development of all countries.
"We should pursue people-centered economic globalization and bring about more balanced development and more equal opportunities, so that different countries, classes and communities can all benefit from development," he said.
Xi stressed that Asia- Pacific economies have maintained robust growth and created an incredible miracle. "The success of the Asia-Pacific is due to our unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the region, our persistent practice of genuine multilateralism and open regionalism, and our deep belief in the trend of economic globalization and our common interests and success," he stressed.
Xi said the Asia-Pacific region will remain the locomotive of economic globalization in the future. Xi noted that China's development cannot be separated from the Asia-Pacific region and vice versa will bring further benefits to the region.
