Following a letter from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and the Tan Cang Saigon Corporation (TCSG), and information posted on its website reflecting that five businesses had dozens of tons of pepper and coffee stolen at Cat Lai port, TCSG has issued a response.

TCSG is currently coordinating with relevant authorities and units to clarify the allegations of cargo theft. (Photo: A view of Tan Cang Cat Lai port).

According to TCSG, the corporation's functional departments are currently working with competent authorities and agencies to verify the information about the goods shortage provided by VPSA. However, the risk of goods loss occurs at many stages, and there is no basis to confirm that the loss occurred at the port.

According to TCSG, the flow of goods from the seller's warehouse to the buyer's warehouse must go through stages in the supply chain such as sea transport, to the unloading port, transport from the port to the importer's warehouse... Therefore, verification is necessary to avoid misunderstandings and damage to TCSG's brand.

The fact that the VPSA Association posted information on its website led to many newspapers using this information for publication before an accurate conclusion was reached by the relevant authorities, which affected the reputation and brand of TCSG.

Previously, VPSA sent a letter to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and the TCSG Corporation reporting that five businesses had dozens of tons of pepper and coffee stolen from their cargo at Cat Lai port. The thefts occurred between September 2023 and April 2024. VPSA believes these suspicions are "well-founded".

VPSA requests the Vietnam Maritime Administration and TCSG to strengthen supervision and implement necessary operational measures to ensure the safety of businesses' goods while they are stored at ports.

For reported cases of lost cargo, VPSA recommends working with relevant parties to investigate the incident and provide a written response, outlining a plan for compensation for lost cargo, if the incident falls within the port's functions and responsibilities.
