Experts recommend traveling in the fall because this is the low season, service prices are reduced while the weather is favorable.
Hayley Berg, chief economist at Canada-based travel app Hopper, said choosing to travel in the fall is “smarter” than going on trips during peak summer.
September and October are the beginning of the low tourist season, with reduced service prices. In addition, the weather is more pleasant during this season, with fewer heat waves. Tourist attractions are also less crowded. These things help tourists have a more comfortable travel experience than in the summer.

“Overtourism” is always the main problem that makes summer travel bad, says travel consultant Jim Bendt, owner of Pique Travel Design in Minneapolis-St. Paul, USA. Traveling off-season, choosing the low season allows visitors to enjoy the scenery of the destination without having to fight the crowds.
According to the travel app Hopper, airfares in many countries tend to fall in early fall. From September to November, domestic flights within the US are more affordable than in the summer, ranging from $137 to $179 per leg. The average domestic airfare in the fall is 29% lower than the average price in the peak summer season, from June to August. Airfares from the US this fall are down 9% compared to the same period last year and 10% lower than in fall 2019.
International airfares are also falling significantly after peaking during the summer. The average fare from U.S. destinations to Europe is down 31% from the summer. However, due to inflation, the cost of a fall trip to Europe is still generally about 18% higher than before the pandemic.
For long-haul flights to some destinations in Asia, prices are about 37% lower than summer but about 57% higher than fall 2019.
Many hotels in tourist destinations in the US also reduced room rates from September, about 5% lower than in the summer. Car rental costs also decreased about 5%.
Pleasant weather is also a factor that makes autumn tourism more attractive. This past summer, many tourist destinations in Europe recorded record heat, many places exceeding 38 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the average temperature in early September in Europe was above 20 degrees Celsius.
Ashley Les, a travel consultant for a company based in Lisbon, Portugal, said that the cost of staying at many resorts in Europe is starting to decrease because September is the time when many tourists return to work and students start school.
"January, September and October are three months when most people don't travel. Therefore, travel costs during these times are much lower than other months," says expert Hayley Berg.
Alex Bentley, founder of UK-based travel company Audley Travel, suggests Nepal, South Africa and Indonesia as “highly desirable” destinations for a long autumn break.
