Dak Lak: Wild elephants attack domestic elephants, destroy people's crops

Two wild elephants appeared, attacked domestic elephants, and destroyed many crops of local people in Buon Don commune (Dak Lak province).

On the morning of December 4, Mr. Mai Duc Vinh, Director of the Elephant Conservation, Animal Rescue and Forest Protection Management Center (Elephant Conservation Center), Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Lak province, said that there were 2 wild elephants appearing, attacking domestic elephants, destroying many crops of people in Buon Don commune (Dak Lak province).

Previously, through monitoring, the Elephant Conservation Center discovered two wild elephants appearing and searching for food in the forest areas of Ranger Station No. 6 and Ranger Station No. 12 of Yok Don National Park and sub-areas 439, 460, 462 in the area managed by the Elephant Conservation Center.

Two wild elephants destroyed 0.5 hectares of cassava of two households in Ea Mar village (Buon Don commune) and attacked and injured a domestic elephant managed by Mr. Y Tep Bu Dam (Buon Don commune).

To ensure safety and proactively prevent elephant-human conflicts, the Elephant Conservation Center recommends that businesses and people in the area be highly vigilant when traveling and producing near forest and field areas bordering sub-zones 439, 460, 462 (Elephant Conservation Center) and Station 6, Station 12 (Yok Don National Park); do not sleep overnight in forests or field huts, especially in places where elephants have been recorded because elephants have the characteristic of foraging at night.

Strictly manage domesticated elephants, absolutely limit the introduction of domesticated elephants into forest areas where wild elephants are present...
