Half a century after the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, Ho Chi Minh City has become a special urban area, a major center of economy , culture, science - technology, education and international integration. Among these achievements, there is a silent but great mark of the artists, contributing to the creation of a modern, creative and unique urban area.

Courage and mission
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has nearly 6,000 artists working in 9 professional associations and tens of thousands of freelance artists. This is a large force, playing a special role in creating knowledge, enriching spiritual life and promoting the city's image.
In particular, many generations of artists have left behind valuable works, both affirming cultural vitality and nurturing love for the homeland, fostering people's faith... Practice shows that a moving song, a good play, a heart-touching film has a greater influence than thousands of empty appeals - contributing to shaping aesthetics, nurturing the soul and building sustainable values in society.
In the context of new developments and the strong movement of the contemporary art market, promoting the role of artists poses many challenges. Mr. Le Nguyen Hieu, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Dance Artists Association, emphasized: “Management agencies need to be sensitive and innovative; artists must be clearly aware of their mission, deeply attached to life, and create many valuable works to serve the public.”
According to Mr. Le Nguyen Hieu, in addition to talent, artists need to uphold their civic responsibility, continuing the spirit of dedication of previous generations. During the resistance war, despite facing countless hardships, artists still created many valuable works that will last forever. That is an example for today's generation to follow, fostering their courage and creative aspirations. "Artists not only need to be talented, but also have a heart, a vision, and be exemplary citizens, responsible for the nation and country - especially for the people of the city named after Uncle Ho," Mr. Le Nguyen Hieu expressed.
It can be affirmed that intellectuals and artists are the special spiritual and intellectual resources of Ho Chi Minh City. In the journey of building and developing a modern, creative and humane city, their role is not only to create or research, but also to serve the people, contribute to the development of identity and nurture the desire for development.

The Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has just organized a workshop on “Promoting the role of intellectuals and artists to meet development requirements”. The workshop was chaired by Mr. Duong Anh Duc, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. This is an opportunity for the city to look back and affirm the role of intellectuals and artists, and at the same time discuss solutions to promote this elite resource in the new period.
Attracting young intellectuals in the public sector
Ho Chi Minh City is entering a new phase of development with the aspiration to become the economic, financial, scientific - technological and cultural center of the region. In that journey, the intellectuals and artists - especially the young intellectuals and artists - will continue to play a core and pioneering role. In the context of the city implementing the arrangement and streamlining of the organizational apparatus and administrative units, attracting young people to the public sector has opened up many opportunities but also posed many challenges.
Mr. Pham Thanh Nhan, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs, said: the process of streamlining the apparatus creates more confidence in a professional and transparent working environment, while opening up many positions for young intellectuals to affirm their abilities and access promotion opportunities. The project "Building an effective and efficient Ho Chi Minh City civil service in the period of 2024-2030" also strongly promotes digital transformation, creating attraction for young people with digital skills, innovative and creative thinking.
However, Mr. Pham Thanh Nhan also pointed out: if there is a lack of synchronization in training and development, along with a lack of appropriate remuneration policies, young resources can easily move to the private sector or abroad. In addition, the pressure to streamline the payroll can make talented human resources hesitant about the development path in the public sector. "Changing the structure is inevitable, but it is necessary to ensure a transparent, fair working environment with a clear roadmap so that young intellectuals can feel secure in their long-term commitment. Otherwise, we will miss out on an important talent force for the city's development," Mr. Pham Thanh Nhan analyzed.
In the new development stage, promoting the role of intellectuals and artists - especially the young generation - is not only a human resource solution but also an investment strategy for the future. A modern, transparent, professional civil service, associated with digital transformation and innovation, will be a fertile ground for intellectuals to fully develop their abilities, accompanying the city in the journey to affirm its position as a major center of the country and the region.
The aspiration to develop Ho Chi Minh City into a modern, creative, and humane city cannot be separated from the responsibility, courage, and mission of the intellectuals and artists. They are a valuable intellectual and spiritual resource, the “innovative cores” that contribute to building identity, nurturing aspirations, and building a bright future for the city named after Uncle Ho.
* Dr. VU THI PHUONG, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture : Art education - the foundation for creating an urban creative ecosystem
In the era of knowledge-based development and international integration, Ho Chi Minh City is facing a strategic opportunity to affirm its position as a leading cultural and creative center in the region. One of the important solutions is to strengthen the connection between higher education and cultural and artistic activities. This is not only a requirement in training high-quality human resources, but also the foundation for building a sustainable and unique creative ecosystem.
Art education plays a central role in shaping creative abilities, nurturing aesthetic inspiration and developing modern urban people. The close connection between schools - artists - cultural enterprises - communities will create conditions for students to develop their abilities, while spreading cultural values, contributing to building urban identity and improving the quality of life for people.
