According to information from the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, before the decision to regulate and reroute traffic on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway, which prohibits passenger buses with more than 30 seats, sleeper buses, and vehicles with 6 axles or more (including monocoque vehicles and tractor-trailer combinations with a load capacity of over 30 tons) from traveling on the route from April 4th, the unit had sent a document to the Vietnam Road Administration proposing to consider and study a traffic rerouting plan according to appropriate times, in order to reduce traffic pressure on National Highway 1 in the southern section of Quang Tri province.
Because vehicles prohibited from traveling on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway are forced to use National Highway 1 through Quang Tri province, and since there is currently no bypass on National Highway 1 through Dong Ha City, inter-provincial vehicles must pass through the city center, this leads to a very high risk of traffic accidents, especially during peak hours, in the rain, and at night. In fact, numerous tragic accidents have occurred on this route, causing public outrage and concern.

According to the Provincial Traffic Safety Board, since the Cam Lo - La Son expressway was put into operation, the volume of traffic through Dong Ha City and National Highway 1 in the southern part of the province has decreased significantly. As a result, in 2023, traffic accidents in the area decreased in all three criteria.
Therefore, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee requests the Vietnam Road Administration to direct relevant agencies and units to study a traffic diversion plan based on appropriate timings to reduce traffic pressure on National Highway 1 in the southern section of Quang Tri province; at the same time, when diverting traffic on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway, the Committee requests the Road Administration to consider not diverting vehicles onto Provincial Road DT.585C, as this road has a narrow road surface, lacks lighting, and is currently severely degraded due to the extremely high volume of traffic.
Regarding this issue, on March 27th, the Department of Transport also sent a document requesting the Vietnam Road Administration to study a plan for regulating and diverting traffic on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway based on current regulations and relevant legal grounds, in accordance with actual conditions and meeting the needs of local socio-economic development.
For the time being, we request that the Vietnam Road Administration direct relevant agencies and units to inspect, review, and supplement the traffic sign system to ensure safety conditions according to design and actual situation; and strengthen patrols, inspections, and handling of traffic violations on this expressway.
